2006 ram 3500 5.9L Turbo Diesel engine turns 2 revolutions after key is switched off
Hey everyone! I am hoping that someone out there has heard of this problem before because noon else has. I have a 2006 ram 3500 5.9L Turbo Diesel engine and it turns 2 revolutions after key is switched off. It is NOT the chirping issue that some have. It literally runs a couple seconds AFTER the key is out of the truck and it has been turned to the off position. Before anyone asks, it doesnt matter if I towed anything, let in run a while after driving to cool off, or whatever it does it EVERY single time no matter what. I have had it in the dealership a couple of times and they flashed the computer, reset the computer, changes solenoids, checked relays and fuses and they say that nothing is wrong. This is the 6 speed version. Please let me know anything that will be helpful. Thank you!

If you are turning 2 revolutions, it is nothing to worry about. If it idles at 650 rpm, it is turning about 10 revs per second. If it is running on, maybe you have a bad key switch?

No, the key switch is fine. It may be only two revolutions but you would have to see it or hear it in order to understand I guess. It is definately not normal. I called Cummins today and the guy said "hell no its not suppose to do that". This is dieseling and it is not normal for sure. Any other suggestions??? Noone seems to know about this. if it continues, I will setup a website with a video of it happening.

Did you buy the truck new? If not, read bigdaves post.
Did you add anything to the truck since you got it. ( TST, Alarm, Power box, ect...)
Is your truck red? Does the radio only play oldies music? Did you have a dent in you truck one day and the next day, it was no longer there? If so, you may just have to rename your truck................

That's just the Cummins wanting to keep going a few more revs. Mine doesn't just shut off instantly with the key, it rattles around a few seconds.
Better to have this than a PowerStroke shutting off before the key is tuned off.
