when i crank the truck over it starts fine
after idiling for a min or 2 it makes a funny clicking noise or almost like a knock it sounds like it is coming from my injection pump
because the noise sounds like a power stroke running out of fuel

 

listen closer i bet its coming from an injector

 

there is also no loss of power
truck starts fine dosent run rough it
just makes this loud knock or "click" after idiling

 

and your sure its from the cp-3

 

its coming from the cp-3 but the i dont how the number for the cylinders
but the first 2 from the front of the truck the truck has been running fine i ran down to north carolina from michigan and back and couple days later it started making this clicking noise

 

hows your fuel pressure, have you replaced your lift pump or is it factory, also are you running any kind of chip

 

its factory lift pump and no chip truck is at cummins bridgeway right now being checked ill post whats wrong when i get the call

 

I'd be willing to say that they find at least one if not more bad injectors.

 

I read a lot about problems with the injectors on Common Rail Injection systems. I think the worst culprit was and maybe still is the Duramax engine. I wonder if it's the higher fuel pressures associated with the Common Rails? When I bought my truck back in late 2001, I was shopping for a Chevy Duramax because a friend of mine was the Service Manager and could score me a great price. His recommendation was that I NOT buy that truck due to the fuel system problems that GM couldn't figure out. I looked at the Dodge and fell in love after driving it and looking under the hood and seeing how simple it was to service everything. I'm still real happy with my 2nd Gen 2002 Cummins and the 22 to 23 MPG I get with freeway only driving. I can deal with the loud engine. Best vehicle I have ever owned. 213,000 miles and going strong.

 

took it to cummins and they looked at it for ahwile and the tech was stumped the service manager sent me to the dodge dealership down the street and and the tech took it for a day and found that my transfer pump and the #4 injector was bad ran my vin and they warrantyed the 100k deal
it was a 100 dollar deduc but thats fine with me shes back on the road

 

start useing a good fuel filter 5 micron at least and change it about every 10 to 12k. also set aside some money when you can because the other injectors will also start going out. usaully when 1 goes the others tend to follow or at least the it has on me
