2002 lemon?
[undecided]I bought a new 02 quad cab 2500 4x4 out of state sight unseen. It had the bed removed and flatbed added. I took delivery at work and could't leave to test drive it I relied on their word.
Next day I left on a 2k trip and found it steers like a 20 year old truck also it is very hard to stop. The front wheels are covered in brown dust, front rotors visibly worn and rear rotors seem unmarked. This is just the serious stuff, local dealer kept it 10 hours and did nothing saying they all do that. My only hope now is take it 180 mi back to start and hope they do something. Any suggestion on what to ask for or demand? Running 265 75 mich using several different pressures, settled on 60. Love the ctd regret the rest.

Re:2002 lemon?
Is this a new truck, or a new/used truck? You said that the rotors on the front are visibly worn. They shouldn't be that way on a new truck. I think that I've read about some kind of steering wander on the newer 4x4's. You might want to do a search. I didn't pay much attention as mine is a 4x2. I'm sorry for your problems. I hope that you can get to a dealer that will give you the service that you deserve.

Re:2002 lemon?
If the truck has a flat bed with a 5th wheel it is because of some *serious* heavy towing. Any Dodge I've ever seen used for really heavy towing... I'm talking to the limit, needed all new brakes, new rear ring & pinion, new tires, and a new clutch (if equipped). If you're buying the truck they shouldn't care if you climb over the truck like a monkey. I'd pull off every cover on the truck and check it out. So it'll cost you a few bucks for more fluid and some tools you had to go buy real quick... but it's a small investment compared to what you could have in mechanical problems. But being a 2002 it's prolly just a little something.

Re:2002 lemon?
Hate to hear you are having trouble with that new of a truck. There are a couple of things on to which to have the dealer focus his attention:

The ABS break system on the newer trucks takes a bit of care on the part of the dealer to make sure it is working as it should. Have them dump the brake system codes and be absolutely sure your rear breaks are even working. I believe there is a warranty item open on the rear brakes, but the dealer will be able to check that for you.

The front ends of these guys must be aligned by a really experienced front end shop. Not quicky brake and sometimes muffler shop, but people that only do brakes, suspension, and front ends.

Re:2002 lemon?
thanks for the replies ya'll, I'll definatly have them read brake codes. As for hauling" heavy", only thing it's ever moved is itself. It's supposed to be new and I think I'll love it if I can get it to drive like new. I tried another 02 since and it drove like a dream. I read some other posts about steering gear and track bars, thanks for the great site, powerfull stuff.
