Well I have to be completly honest. I was shopping around for a 1/2 ton Chevy when I came across a 1998 Dodge Dually with the Cummins with only 76,000 miles on it and I could get it for $7600. Checked out Kelly Blue Book and did some research on it and couldn't pass it by. I knew nothing about diesels and even couldn't believe they didn't have spark plugs!

Well I have learned alot about diesels now and I love my truck. I used to drive a slammed, shaved Chevy S-10. What a huge difference I got myself a real truck now!

im not too sure cuz i know my brother, who is a diesel tech, just had his engine rebuilt and htey had to bore it and sleeve it. but i think he told me that it wouldnt be smart to o over 0.040 but the max i think you can push is .120. oh and i dont have the stock pistons in mine. so i dont have the stock 16:1 comp ratio, i have 18:1.

Bowtie - I was curious, so I did the math. If your engine is bored by 0.040 inch, then your engine is now 366.6 cubic inches (versus 359.4 stock). You are correct, that calculates to 6.008 Liters (versus 5.890 Liters stock).

Sounds like a darn cool truck. I love the late 80's 4 door crew cab chevy duallys. A Cummins in one of those would be awesome.

Did you notice better fuel economy with the 18:1 compression? Although, it's supposed to be harder for the engine to push the piston up with more compression, I heard the more compression you have, the more efficient the engine is...

I drive mine cause I'm cool like that.

Plus, I love rolling black smoke out of my big ol exhaust pipe and listening to that turbo whine.

those mods were done when the engine was originally installed in the truck after it was removed and remanned out aof a Case IH. so i dont know what hte fuel mileage was before the higher compression. sorry i cant be of help when it comes to that. but i see anywhere between 19-22 i think cuz my speedo is messed up and i dont always drive the same way.

As to the whole body style of my truck i think it is absolutley ugly to be honest. but i bought the engine and the truck came with it i do have to admit it looks pretty sweet with a billet grille.and like the song says, i have an 8 ft bed that never has to be made. but it can get you laid plus if it rains i can take it on inside. oh what would we all do if they never made trucks?

Because it is environmentally irresponsible to drive a gasoline powered vehicle.

I have to have 900 ftlbs of torque to haul my wife around! No. Really. Don't tell her I said that. She'd sell my truck when I'm asleep! She is actually tiny, until another 3 or 4 months pass, then POP! Baby in front! Not tiny no more!

I have a 1 ton dually to haul 5 big bags of sand and a queen sized water bed full of frozen water inthe winter time so I don't get stuck.... I also need it to haul all the spare parts I need to keep it running and all the big tools required to fix it. It's no wonder Dodge came up with the Megga Cab. Where else are you going to put people.

other wise I just like it.

besides it's a real truck....1 ton, dually, 5 spd, Cummins diesel and it's black. not many engineers drive diesels except those that run on tracks

Sometimes I really tax the load capacity when I get 20# of steel at the steel yard.
