Needed a fullsize I could pull with.
Will not have IFS
Will not have 6.0
Was looking at an '85 454 when Katrina came through and sent gas ^^^^
started looking a 7.3 or 5.9,
found a 5.9
And I loved it ever since

i always liked the looks of the 2nd gen dodge trucks...best looking generation of any truck IMHO...the cummins hands down was the choice when i was deciding on diesels although i had thought about the 7.3...at the time chev had the 6.5 and i wasnt interested at all....besides that i just find the older dodges to be simple..nothing complex..easy to swap parts and easy to get under to do work...i never needed a crew cab so that was never a consideration

First was the engine in 1991. The truck also looked better than the other 2. When the 2nd Gens came out, that was the best. My sis bought one in 1994. I bought the diesel in 2001. Today they are still the best and the best looking hands down!

I've always been a Dodge fan. I was driving an F250 with a built 390 (300+hp) I had it way overloaded with gravel and brick one day. It was hard to stop, hard to keep steady and the power going up a certain onramp was NOT there! The RPMs the motor required made it impossible to stay in a higher gear to accelerate. I've had more weight, on the same onramp, with this 160 Hp. cummins fly up. My 93 4x4 dually will not out accelerate other trucks empty, or even with a 5000 lb trailer, but hook up to a heavy load or trailer and I WILL run away from you! (gas engines) I am a mason contractor and I abuse this truck almost daily - it never fails. I love this truck/engine and would never hide behind some corporate tradename like "powerstroke" or "duramax". Are they embarrassed of who they are? Isuzu and Navistar? And no, I'm NOT going to apologize for ranting because that big <edit> in my driveway has a full pallet of portland cement in the bed that I will use to make alot of money on Monday! That is why I bought the Dodge. Rich

My dad has a 96 1500 and I like it but it wasn't until I drove a 97 Dodge with the Cummins in it, I fell in love. So being I was still in High school I went out looking for a Cummins and my teacher had a 92 w250 5sp 4x4 Cummins and he was upgrading to a 2004 and I bought it the best decision of my life!!! It is now my daily driver for starting college. Tears everytime I turn the key

My 1st gen was the only truck I could think of that fit these catagories:
-Good fuel economy
-Cheap to modify and get power out of
-Indestructible motor
-Strong 4x4 components and strong truck overall
-Inline 6 diesel (silly powerstroke/Dmax, V8s are for gassers )
So after searching for 3 weeks and looking at half a dozen first gens or so, I found my rig sitting on the side of the highway with a for sale sign.
Any regrets? At times I wish I would've gotten an auto, for ease of driving around town and lower KMs would be nice but that means a higher buying price.

why dodge
in the 50s i was a chevy freak. started going to the dragstrip. after about one season of watching the fords and chevvies break and the mopars just kept on running i changed and havent looked back. bodies of the mopars left a little to be desired but the drive train was second to none. would have bought my dodge anyway but the cummins was the icing on the cake. ps the only drive train problems i EVER had was due to my own stupidity.
