We should be able to vote more than once.. Cummins, Cat, and John Deere (probably Detroit too but I don't know) are amongst the best. If it's in a big rig, it must be good.

 

The answer seems real easy.
Now ask who makes the best truck. I tell my local dealership I bought a Cummins, I had no choice what came wrapped around it!

 

There is no one answer . Cummins is he best for light trucks but not for Class 7 or 8 . You put in John Deere so then you get into a whole new category .

 

I agree there is no one best answer. The fact is, I've had great performance from many different makes of diesels. A 27 year old sailboat with a 24 hp Kubota engine, a 12 year old 20 hp Kubota tractor, a 12 year old power boat with a 200 hp Volvo diesel, a new V-6 Bluetec E-320 Mercedes diesel, two Dodge CTD's. Never a problem with any of them and they all get great mileage for the service they are used in.

 

For passenger car 1982 - 1985 mercedes 300d is the best engine made period. Cummins is the best pickup truck engine period. just my .03 cents

 

i voted detroit but probably International, the DT436, 466, 530, pretty much about everything we own it has been moved by one of these trucks.
