It's plugged into an inside outlet with a large gauge extension cord running through a small hole drilled in a wall and sealed back up.
(If you unhook one end from the extension cord first, you can drill a much smaller hole )
That way, if I want to go ahead a 'let her eat' all night long, I just flip the switch on from inside.
i use the same one and it works great. it doesnt get to cold here so i usually let her come on for 3-=40 min at about 2=3 am then kick on again for 45min to an hour before i leave. jiMMy

Ok, I have to ask...

Everyone talks about how plugging in gives them instant heat. Some people say they only plug it the truck in for the instant heat thing...

Well, I don't get instant heat. I don't get any heat. My block heater must be doing something because my wait to start light goes off after about 1 second, but it takes just as long as any other time until I get heat from my vents.

What gives? Is it just too cold (About 0*F)?

"Instant" being relative.

If I don't plug in, I barely have heat by the time I get to the freeway.

If I do plug in, heat starts coming out a little over halfway to the freeway.

Mine's the same.
If I plug in for 3 hrs before leaving, the temp gauge starts moving about 4 miles into my commute.
One day last week I didn't plug in........took about 5 minutes longer to warm up in the cab.
Those 5 minutes seem a lot longer when yer toes is froze.
