General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

When and why did #2 get more expensive than 87 Octane?

Here in Michigan we have more road taxes on diesel than gas since of course diesels damage the roads more! From what I've gather when a barrel of crude is cracked they can do it so that 2 parts are gasoline and 1 part is diesel or so 2 parts diesel and 1 part gasoline, so finding the balance between the two are up to the refineries. Perhaps it is because the general public thinks they are paying less if gas goes down, but no really escaping fuel surcharges on deliveries if diesel stays up.

its got to be price gauging. if not, then why do 3 gas stations selling diesel on the same intersection here in chino have diesel $ wars every **** week. when ever i go fill up it is a diff station each week. its between chevron, 76, and texaco. 2 of them will be the same and alway and i mean alway one of them will be 9c cheaper than the other 2. and they always rotate, one of the 3 stations will always be lower. ****. i remember when i bought my first 01 ctd and the price was .99c when 87 was $1.23. what the he**. ok, alittle off topic here but, what is the best way to find stations that sell the red diesel for my generator for my rv? thanx the only one i have found was by accident about 30miles away. just dont like to drive that far to fill it up.

Don't know about off raod fuel in your area. There is only one station near me that sells it. (In Delaware @ 1.99 a gallon (near me is within 25 miles).

I don't think it's liberal for our country to be more self sufficient in the oil department AND support our farmers. Only common sense for any side of the political spectrum.

I agree, it was just funny to see the name of the website. I would like to see better than "more" self sufficient, like maybe actually going back to a productive society?
I will be a supporter, just as soon as we get some at a pump near me.

ok, alittle off topic here but, what is the best way to find stations that sell the red diesel for my generator for my rv?
Best way is to call and ask a local yard that rents heavier equiptment.
I remember a fellow on another message board asked the same question, most of the answers were card-locks in So Cal.
In Montana most stations have a red nozzle right next to the green one.

I just read an article that says diesel fuel consumption is exceeding supply.

They are talking about switching some fuel production from gasoline to diesel.

All the stuff we import from China is probably consuming huge amounts of diesel to power5 the ships and trucks to deliver it all.

Ha! you think so? Lets see, 50 trucks to and from 20,000 Walmarts all over the counrty? Thats okay, we all "need" those roll backs, right? Were in trouble folks, it'll dawn on everyone here in another 10 years.

Idk what Wally World has to do with that but I agree with the theory that one day it will no longer be economically feasible to drill for crude. (we never run out of oil, just eventually it takes as much energy to get it as it getting it yields) Hopefully that time won't be during our lifetime but you never know.... Until then I'm sure OPEC will be more than happy to gouge us.

Can anyone explain this to me? If I run a business and the cost of my raw materials goes up, it typically cuts into my profit. The cost of crude oil (raw material) is up, but according to USA TODAY profits for EXXON are up 44% for the first quarter of the year.

Anyone out there making 44% more on their investments in the past few months?

Well if they somehow let their wages up 44% then it wouldn't be considered profit by the company. I almost think Mobil / Exxon set a new record for most profitable company last year. It must be all those shortages of fuel, higher delivery costs, and lack of refenieries we keep hearing about....
