What are your trans temps?

I have an overhauled and beefed up 47 RE. My trans temp guage almost never moves unless im doing some heavy towing. For everyday driving, the guage either barely moves or just moves the tiniest bit. When it does start to move while towing, it goes up to right around 180ish, but will cool down if i slow down. The fluid does not smell burned. What are ya alls temps usually at?

When towing our 5th wheel mine runs around 180 too, other than that she's usually at around 150-160 (barely moving!!!) Take care!

Where is your temp probe located at in the pan or test port? Different locations will show different temps!

not sure where the probe is. The wire goes over the top of the trans. and i can see it on top of trans on passenger side. It was installed before i bought the truck. It must be in a bad spot. The lowest temp is 140* but i would guess it gets hotter then that on a regular basis.

My '98 had the probe in the pan and gauge started at 140*. It only came off the peg towing on steep hills and idling in stop and go traffic.

On my 95 it has a lug on the "HOT" line going out of tranny to first cooler. Hottest oil in the system. Normal around town is 180 area in summer. Towing 13K it will sit in the 200 area.

I think im not gonna worry to much about this one. Im gonna focus instead on replacing fuel lines that probably didnt need replaced. Then maybe a new lift pump. But i think the trans temp guage is working allright, not the best but allright.
