What year did CTD become "quiet"?

My '03 is fairly noisy and stock, 180,000 miles, rattles like my old powerstroke untill you get into the pedal a bit and then it gets quiet.

Didn't they go with the third injection event in 4.5? That's when they went "quite".

started getting quiet in 03 and the 3rd even twas more for emmision then sound. mite have helped some

Dealer made a big deal about the 3rd injection event of the 4.5 and the engine being more quite than an 04 when I was looking for mine.......but that was a dealer!
