What RPM do you shift at?
#3
Oh yeah.. I guess I should include myself.
Normally I shift at about 2000-2250 rpm's for all gears. But sometimes I feel like the rpm's drop too low after the shift. I think I'd rather have a 6 speed...

anywhere between 1500rpm to 3500rpm depending on gear and how fast i want to get moving. downshifting while slowing down i shift it so the engine speed is in the 3000-3800 rpm range [5th at 120kph, 4th at 80-90kph, 3rd at 60-70kph, 2nd at 35-45kph]
[edit] whoops, dyselxia set in there, i had typed 1200 instead of 1500 and didn't notice it until now. shifts from 1500 drops rpm to about 1200 [/edit]

I shift similar to this, i try to minimize smoke unless im provoked, diesel is gettin harder to afford....
Empty
1-2 about 1800 rpms
2-3 2000 rpms
3-4 2000 rpms
4-5 2000 rpms
loaded,it all depends, but most of the time i let the rpms go to 2200-2500 if light to medium weight, and if i have a heavy load, 2700-3000 arent uncommmon..

Well, I never tow anything, but running around town I usually use launch in first, run there until I build 15-17 PSI of boost, then throw it into second and watch the tach drop 400 RPM. Then I keep the pedal mashed to maintain boost until the engine defuels in second gear, then drop it into third and accelerate the rest of the way.
Altough it would probably be faster to launch in second rather than worry about the granny-geared first gear slowing me down...
Who says that us autotarded guys can't shift too?

I usually wind her up a little bit more when I'm towing. Around 2000-2100 or so. Empty my truck digs so well that I can shift at 1500 with no problems and still keep up with traffic!!! I try not to get into any off the line altercations because I have the 6 speed; but if someone messes with me over about 50 mph, they'd better watch out. More often than not, my ride'll smoke and leave them way behind!!!

I usually get 500-700 rpms away from redline if im just out playin. Searsouly, about a thousand away. Towing, i get real close to redline. tx said that he tries to stay out of it to ease up on the smoke. im just the opposite. lay into it real hard and watch the person tailgating me turn on their headlights.
- dont think im a bad guy, i dont do this to everyone. just the annoying tailgaters in their little sports cars/ricers.
