definetly make a jet engine out of it!!!!!
I made one out of a big old Detroit Diesel (garrett) turbo. Weld together a cumbustion chamber with inner flame tube and plumb it up! I start mine on propane, but then once the propane is lit, I transition to kerosene. Propane will work if you are using a small car turbo, but it just doesnt have enough BTU's to fuel/spool a big turbo. I used an old home heating furnace injection pump for fuel supply, and an old soda machine carbonator pump with adjustable regulator for the oil pump. I assume that big Cat turbo only has oil running thru it correct? Or is it water cooled too? I run mine about 40psi oil pressure. I start it with a leaf blower, but it kind of takes three hands to start it. I used an old neon sign transformer connected to a long reach automotive spark plug to ignite it the fuel. You just have to be careful with the throttle on startup because you dont want a hot-start or runaway. The only tricky thing as far as building it was to drill the holes in the proper pattern in the inner flame tube in order to properly induce swirl and correctly mix the incoming compressor air charge with the hot combustion. If the holes near the end are too small, not enough cool compressor air charge will mix with the hot combustion charge and it will not really spool up, and the EGT's willl just go sky high. Definetly wire up a pyrometer. I hooked up a boost guage too. Ive seen some guys get as crazy as hooking up a tach, but as long as EGT's and boost are under control its "safe".
oh yeah....and the sound is awesome too

I read about this about 6 years ago on some college project site. They had videos and all sorts of instructions on the web. Incidentally the turbo used was a holset.
I also found some other site with Liquid oxygen "LOX"... they poured it on a weber grill and completely melted the thing down.
I'd say do the jet engine thing, no doubt.

How much is the turbo worth on eBay, though?
I'd rather put $500+ into a lot of things other than a little jet motor.
(Although, that being said, the idea of turning a turbo into a jet does strike me as awe-inspiring.)

depending on turbo size and A/R of the compressor and exhaust housing, yeah it could power a go-kart.
Id say maybe 100lbs of thrust? One of these days when im bored maybe ill work out an afterburner for it........

I found some videos of various Jet powered turbo conversions, enjoy!
Go kart
Making homemade jet turbo
Turbo jet engine on stand
Another turbo jet engine go kart
And just for fun a turboed (not jet powered) Vespa!! 42Hp!!
