What to do with Huge CAT turbo?

the story behind this turbo is, while i was in Iraq i was tooling around in the dump on a large base and came across a large shipping container with a cat generator built into it. it had been in a convoy and they were attacked the truck got shot up and crashed, the generator flipped and slid down the road so it wound up in the junk yard.

need less to say the new 16 cylinder twin turbo CAT generator was trashed, so i decided to unbolt one of the turbos and bring it home.

on the tag it says
CATERPILLER TURBOCHARGER P/N 7W9409

any ideas from the CAT guys on specs on this thing?

I would think that's a bit too big for use on a 5.9 liter...

Since it's brand new you could probably trade it for a couple turbos you could use, however.

And let me be the first to say "thank you" for your service.

Maybe you could use it as the top turbo in a triple, or more likely quadrupile turbo set up. Would have to mount it outside the hood, and run 10 or 12 BHAF filters for that thing. We have those generators at work so I'll see if I can find anything out. We use 4 in our building and 3 next door. They are 16 cylinders but are quad turbo'd. The turbos on those are piped through 10" ducts though, so there really big. See if you can find some specs on Google, cat diesel gens or something.

Yeah lets see the intake blades = )

is it off a 399 cat i'm assuming??? or a 3500 series? diesel or gas/natural gas? I work with these all day on our gas compressors. I'll look up that number in our books and see what i can find. i'd have to say trade it in for something smaller, unless, u want to make a loud and big jet turbine engine...

DOD policy disallows this kind of thing. Read up on the DRMS regs. If you don't obtain gov't scrap from a DRMS auction, it has been obtained illegally.

Gate guards are not approving authorities.

That said, the bazillions of DOD dollars flowing all over the place make this pretty insignificant.
