Yes, most of the time they can. smarty claims that if you down load back to stock they cant detect it. I think they are on the ball so I believe them.. If they detect it I dont really care its my truck and if i break something because of the smarty I will fix it myself.

I'm running a K&N. If Dodge blames the filter for a problem, will K&N stand behind their warranty?

you can buy a 2008 down the road from me with gauge, edge j/a, 6" lift...etc....they do TONS of mods and sell the truck as new, you can finance everything too...

ok so if they are bouncing warranties for something like cold air intakes then why do they sell the mopar units that are made by afe? they list them on their parts site, in their accessories book, and display them in the dealerships. they also sell the k&n filters in the parts dept at the dealership where i bought both the truck and charger. i have been told by the service managers at both of the dealerships that i deal with several times that any upgrades will not be covered themselves but will not void my warranty unless they specifically cause the problem.

the problem i have is .... do i trust them to honor their word or just take the gamble.

If they put an Edge on the truck, does the Edge have warranty still? Basically it sounds like they are following the rules which we are supposed to be playing by, you can put anything on your vehicle without voiding the warranty unless that specific part caused the problem . . .

that's what my dealership has told me for the 6 years i've been doing business with them. they don't hassle anyone with an aem or amsoil- dry aftermarket filters/cai's are fine with them.

A Doge House tech point of view

Yeah I catch some flack about being a diesel tech at a dodge dealership but hey I love these trucks and really like helping people keep theirs running as well as possible. If you are having a dealership say this junk about if you do this we will void your warranty then my suggestion is that you really NEED to take your truck somewhere else. I flat out ask customers what chip or programmer they are running on their trucks when they come in just because it gives me a better idea of what could be causing a problem, infact i have done this right infront of my service manager only to have the customer look at me then at him then back at me as if they are scared that they will get slapped for answering. At our dealership we dont care about these mods as long as we are the ones getting to do the work needed to fix it, and the only way it could cause a problem is if its something that grabs Chrysler's attention and they send a rep to check it out. The truth is I and my boss could care less if they have a chip or programmer on their rig, mine is SOOOOO far from stock that its not even funny and its about to get worse and his "might" be too. I understand why people do it most of the time and then other times I dont understand the modding of your truck
(thats directed at the 500 HP grocery getters) which yeah i see at least one a day. fact is that it is still up to the service department to prove that your after market part caused the damage and in some cases they can and will and in other cases they would rather fix it than fight you on it. But here is a little word of advice. Even if you pull your chip or programmer off or what ever mod you might have had on there a tech such as myself will be able to pick up on it still. So for those of you that think you get away with it truth is you probably don't and they,like myself, really don't care, but I will also say that if it is something that you can easily remove then it doesn't hurt to go on and remove it because you never know who will see it and raise a stink over it. Speaking from experience. Sorry to go on for so long but I don't think that it is fair for you to loose your warranty over something stupid like an air intake or any other mod for that matter when we get trucks in everyday that are and always have been 100% stock and still have the same problems as one of our trucks with after market mods on them.

That's easy to say here, but when you find yourself standing at a service counter after just being told all the junk you added to your truck just voided your warranty, and say this, your going to hear alot of laughing, and then as you write a check for your repairs, a bit of crying.

If it came down to an engine and I know it wasn't the mods fault then I'd go after them hard. I'm not your standard country bumpkin.

I'll let you know that we've went after a dealer when they wouldn't fix something on my Z28.

Kept getting a gas smell coming in to the cabin, strong and intermident. They finally had to pull the whole fuel system and replace it. Plus i ended up with $1500 for a rental car.

FWIW, that car is modded too pretty heavily.

If you're at the dealership in College Station I'd have to say that's the coolest dealership I've dealt with so far. Even though I haven't taken my new cummins there my old hemi went in a couple times when I was living there.

I honestly think dodge is just trying to get out of warranty repairs... OR.. they are messing around their dealers so much they don't want to do the repairs.

I brought in a $40,000 truck because the satelite radio is popping and crackling like a 1940's jukebox and they tell me they can't reproduce it? I think not, truck stayed there for 3 days too and i haven't had time to take it back in 7 months . I had a better quality sound in a 17 year old cheyanne chevy work truck.
