WARNING! About cold air intakes
#16
Well dont shoot the mesenger! LOL. Im just relaying what i was told at school. All i know is a couple momths back i put an engine in a 04.5 with 50k miles customer pay becuase of a drop in K&N air filter bouncing his claim. I think the bill was somewhere in the 17k range installed. The engine had the typical injector faliure destroying #6 cyl. a problem ive seen way too many times. In fact ive replaced more engines in 04.5 on up then ive ever replace 98.5 to 02.
So take it for whats its worth. If your value your warranty and dont want to pay lawyers and all that crap dont bring the truck in with mods i guess.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. It is federal law that the dealer may revoke warranty only IF they can prove that the mod contributed to the damage they are repairing. Just like was stated above, they can't blame your air intake for a failed lift pump, or your Optima batteries for a burnt relay. They have to prove it.

The newest policy came out specificly for the 6.7.The system is complex enough that Cummins is still trying to figure it out in real worl situations.When you tamper with emmisions it gives Dodge the out they were looking for.If you tamper with emmisions you have done Dodge a service .The Moss magnussen act does not protect your rights to modify power levels only to be able to use aftermarket replacement parts that meet or exceed the oem requirements.You have SEMA fighting very hard to keep the aftermarket parts companies interest protected.When you are out there blowing smoke in a window of the car next to you think about how that person will vote

I think it depends on the dealership. I work in at a dealer. How does the factory know if it has a cold air intake? They don't know if you don't tell them, especially on something as simple as cold air intake.

I say why even give them the opportunity to try and deny a warranty claim??? People can save themselves so much trouble if they just take a little bit of time and just switch out the filters real quick, and if it's a whole aftermarket intake it doesn't take long to swap back to the factory stuff. Now if you've got all kinds of crap done like a turbo, dual pumps and stuff that takes a long time to remove then fuggedaboutit.

Yes they do have the time and money, but it really isn't worth their time fight a warranty issue they know is their fault. That is how class action law suits start which they will end up paying for in the long run. Also, its not dodge that will initially revoke your warranty, its the dealerships, and dealerships LOVE warranty fixes because they can charge their shop labor rate, make the profit, then bill everything back to dodge (including paying their technician) with a good warranty explanation and there is no way that dodge is ever going to know that someone had a K&N filter in their truck unless the technician writes it down...which I have never seen. I have seen the dealerships warranty just about anything and everything if they were the ones that installed the chip or after market modification, including a 550 hp supercharged mustang GT that the dealership I worked for built.

Warranty Stuff
I use Wix oil filters on my truck, while I was on the boat for a few months the little woman brought the truck in for service. She brought the wix oil filter in as well as the Mobil Delvac I use (got one of those flyer/coupons in the mail), simple service. Worried they cheated me, when I got home I checked and they did use the filter. Here's how I know;
Hope they don't void my warranty for it??????

The Duramax is sounding better and better these days. The dealer here also sells them with Edge J/A with no void waranties.

I seen Dodge places do the same but if you were to take it to a different dealership then you bought it at they would void the warranty on it. BTW, just because some dealer sells a truck bombed does not mean Dodge, Ford or GMC approves of it.

If a dealership sells you a truck that THEY bombed, have all the bombing goodies listed on THEIR invoice, then to me it would serve from a legal standpoint that THEY THEMSELVES become the warrantor of your vehicle regarding the aftermarket componenets and HOW those components are viewed by the trucks manufacturer. This thinking goes to how an attorney would prepare a case representing YOU. The fact that dealerships DO add these components as part of the sale suggests that the specific components they are marketing MUST fall somewhere in the realm of ACCEPTABLE aftermarket products, otherwise they would have to/or become compelled to deny the warranty as per the manufacturer's standards.
All a good attorney would need is a sufficient amount of dealer advertising or website information of avertising from several different dealerships to argue your case. If it is OK by a dealership to install this stuff and still honor a warranty, then the same would apply if YOU installe the same aftermarket components. Goes to exclusion vrs inclusion/discrimination and separation.
