Does the 3rd gen have a fuel lubricated pump, or engine oil lubricated? Lubricity of the fuel is only a concern where the pump is lubricated by the fuel. Such as a VP44.

After reading this thread, I went to Walmart where I live and found alot of 2-cycle oil. I bought 2- gallons. The 2-cycle oil is good to lube the fuel pump. I am still running on the OEM pump that is on the filter. The truck runs great and I am happy.

Hey all you 3rd and 4th gen guys leave this 2 stroke stuff on the shelf, y'all don't need it. haha Us 2nd gen 24 valve guys are the ones that really need this stuff. . Just let us know where it is and we can go stock up on it.

On the other hand, if everybody buys up carts full of it maybe we can make deals out in the parking lots. Walmart may even reconsider stocking the stuff again.

I used Power Service on my 2000 3500 until 2003. Went to Walmart 2 stroke and was using 1oz/gallon. Ran that for a long time. Dropped back to 1/2oz/gallon. Engine was not as quiet. I was using an additive to replace the lubricity that was being removed from diesel. Diesel use to be oily feeling and hard to get off your hands. Todays diesel is like paint thinner. It does not even leave a stain on the concrete if you spill it.

Anyway, I sold my 2000 3500 having replaced the Lift Pump (LP) two times and never replaced the VP44 in 203,000 miles. The current owner is continuing the 2 stroke oil. Its was my opinion then and now that if it rotates and is in the fuel system, its got some sort of bearing surface that a little extra oil will help out. Others feel that way as well.

Unlike ATF, 2 stroke is designed to burn and leaves not residue or ash. ATF is not designed to burn and may leave deposits around the valves. Granted, its a great cleaning agent for the injectors.

I'm using 2 stroke in my 06 at 256:1 ratio or 1/2oz/gallon.

I'm mixing 2qt 2cy oil, 2qt WMO, and 1qt Power Service to 100 gallons. I also add any amount of WVO I can get my fingers on.
But i'm running 1st gens and we need all the help we can get.

I'll 3rd that. Don't know if it makes a difference, but the truck is absolutely quieter, at idle and especially above 2,000 rpm at freeway cruise. No clatter with, clatter without.

I'm using ~1/2oz per gallon. Oddly enough I think my truck runs smoother without. I just ran out of 2stroke this full up and only put in 8oz to my fill up. I'm going to run a bit without 2 stroke and see how it goes now that I'm watching it.

I can say using 2 cycle oil will make the quite down the injectors but I stopped using it as I don't like losing no less then 1 mpg so I now only use 8 oz of Lucas and I don't lose mpg so to me that's a plus.

That surprises me as I gained about 1/2 mile per gallon, maybe a bit more.

Other sorces to find 2 stroke gallons: Pep Boys, and around Texas, Academy Sports(boat section).
Both have 9.99 gallon, less than Wally World.
Most 2nd Geners get maybe a little extra mileage, but the motor seems to run better, quiter. In theory, it is better for lift pump, VP44, and injectors. If it saves just 1 lift pump or VP44, it is worth it.

For some reason the mpg loss is a problem seen on 2005 and newer trucks.

Why does the two stroke oil make the engine less noisy? Does it slow down the burning of the fuel? If so would that be the same as retarding the timing? Just trying to figure this out. Anybody ever do back to back dyno runs with and with out the two stroke oil?

That seems strange. I wonder what would cause that? I was a bit surprised to see the increase in mine. I usually fuel at the same pump, the same way and check it almost every time so I think I have a pretty good handle on what goes on with my mileage.
