Valvoline Premium Blue & Classic

It has been sometime since the CJ thread/mania started. I got a card from Autozone with a special on Val. PB. I went to their web(Valvoline) site & learned that the VPB is CJ rated. It also showed that the the VPB-Classic that is CI+4, in 5 gal buckets.
Has anyone seen TBN numbers on these products? I suspect if it is the same older formula, it will still be near the best for pre 07 Cummins. As far as I can tell, there are no CJ oils that are anywhere close to the CI+4, especially the old VPB.
It will be interesting to get the current state of the lube union.

I believe that there was an independent test done on a bunch of the major oils out there and Valvoline Premium Blue was one of the best rated oils.

I think this was published in TDR:
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf

Don't know if that helps or not.

I tried goig there and it would not come up. Last time Ii looked at it, was about 6 months ago and CJ oils, including VPB, were still coming out.
I guess I am not sure if the new " Classic" is the same as the old VPB, also sold by Cummins. They may also be selling the Classic now, too. Anyone know?

The CJ spec VPB has a TBN of 10. I believe the Classic is around 12.

I just received a report from "Blackstone Labs" from my last oil change, and after 6700 mi of combined city and hiway towing, my TBN was 5.2.
They stated that a reading of 5.2, showed lots of active additive left in the oil. they said that I could safely go another 1500 miles more on the next change. ( not me, I usually change it between 6500, and 7000 mi.) This was the newer formula CJ-4 Premium Blue from Valvoline. I like it and it doesn't smell like rotella either.

Had you considered tring to get the VPB-Classic?
Or just easier to go with what is easily available?

I was told a my local Cummins shop,(Southeast power Systems inc.) That it was available by drum only but I could get it in my own containers from them. But there price is $2.95 per gallon higher than Auto Zones price for the CJ-4 grade. So to me it's not worth the difference in price.

If you go out to the Valovoline Premium Blue web site, they have part numbers for 5 gallon pails. I think you could get NAPA or Autozone to look at ordering it for you.
I got a coupon card from Autozone for the VPB, bur 2 gallons, get 2 free. It might be on their web. At any rate, Autozone may start to carry it.
