V8 to CTD Swap

V8 to CTD Swap
I'm curious to know what it'd take to swap a 12V into a gas powered (V8 or V10) 2500 or 3500 2nd gen Ram?
I'm wondering about Motor Mounts, Radiators, Trans/Bellhousing, Starters, Trans Mounts, wiring, etc.
Anyone performed this swap or know what it takes? I did a search but didn't find specifics...
Thanks

That was my idea of building a 1500 diesel but it got shot down... but there is good info on what you need to swap it out. Not much involved with a 12 mechanical... just a few wires and it'll run heh.

Well I can understand that. A 1500 frame & suspension just won't cradle a heavy Cummins motor unless it's seriously beefed.
I'm just wondering what it'd take to do a straight forward CTD swap into a 3/4 ton gas truck. Shouldn't be hard, just looking for specifics.

You will need to change the tank, the fuel lines, the engine controller if applicable, and probably the front suspension if it's a 2500 (would need to check on that one.) The brakes are also uprated, as it's a heavier engine. Really it's eaiser these days to simply find another truck than to swap gas to diesel. Just my $.02

yeah, Jughead. Mine never cracked either. I compared the frames side by side on a first gen and there was no difference except for suspension components. Motor mounts, etc. bolted right up.
I put over 200,000 miles on it.

What is the weight differences between a 12 V and a Big V-8 such as a 460 or even a 350? Also how hard is it to get ahold of the 3.9B Diesels. I told my friend he should put one of them in his little 86 S10 instead of a big 350. How heavy are the 3.9s? Thanks.

12v = Roughly 1k lbs
350 = 500-650 lbs ( I haven't found a good source yet for this)
3.9 4bt = Roughly 600 lbs (basically a 6bt with 2 cyclinders cut off)
3.9 diesels are easy to get ahold of. All frito Lay trucks had the 3.9 and are willing to sell off their old retired trucks if you contact them, cheap too. 3.9 would be a great engine for a s10. I've read of people getting 500 ft/lbs of torque out of them with no problems... think of hauling up a hill with that.

What kind of mileage would you get out of a 4bt? I really like the sounds of this, swapping in this engine into an S10 or smaller truck. If you could easily get 300-350 hp out of them that would be great. Thanks lockdown.
