V-configuration Cummins in Ram 1500 and Durango...possibly

Here's an interesting article I found today. I only hope it's true (for Dodge I mean). I know my dad would be interested! If it makes it into the Durango, then it would only be natural to put it in the upcoming Chrysler Aspen as well.

Please, please, please. I would love to see a Cummins in a Durango. We'll be replacing the Mrs. Volvo in a few years and she wants to be up higher and likes the Durango. A V8 Cummins (don't they have a 4.2 V8?) would probably give her the mileage she gets now.

She likes the Saab 9-7, but once I heard it was a rebadged Chevy Envoy (i.e. mostly a Chevy) , that changed things.

The Dr. Z commercials claim a soon to be released world's cleanest burning engine. Maybe this is it?? Or maybe not??

Oh now this response was just funny

"3. It'll be a cold day in he_|_| before I ever buy anything with a Cummings engine. They can't build a decent motor for a semi for cryin' outloud!

I had a 2005 Volvo Truck with a Cummings that had no power at all. Climb the smallest of hills and you'd have to drop 6 gears with a meer 25,000lb load."

Oh also, here is a link that was supplied in the article, it explains a lot about the new engines!!!

I think that worlds cleanest diesel is the Bluetec Mercedes diesel engine. The 3 l V6 already puts out around 220 hp with the 4 l V8 having 306 hp at the moment. The V6 already is in some Jeep and Chrysler models here in Europe as well as in almost every Mercedes model, add the Bluetec system and it should meet your emission laws with ease. But the 4.2 V6 and 5.6 V8 Cummins engines in Dodge Suv´s and 1500 Ram trucks might be a nice feature. Would help sales either...

You weren't the only thinking that. However, the HO wasn't available in MA from the beginning of our diesel inspections, up until the 600 came out. It's been available since and without an EGR. TDI's can't pass emissions here and they have an EGR.

Having 3 CDT's to choose from, depending on vehicle, would really make Dodge's competition cringe.

Especially with the torque ratings on those 2 motors. You'll have people buying airbags for their Durango's because they pull so hard.

I suspect Ford has found a replacement for that IH problem it has, and DC will start using parent company engines.

Why cant they just put a good I-4 engine in them. I just dont like a v configured diesel. They run like a gasser IMO, and dont have the down low pull that an inline motor of the same displacement will.

.....while the diesel engine would be great, it would still not overcome the shortcomings from the sucky a/c system on the Durango. (please be advised. my opinion was formed by the sheer numbers of a certain vehicle that have come through the door with the complaint of "a/c not cold". I live in He11 so any a/c system working here is a miracle in itself. I wouldn't own one.....and a/c compressors are on restriction for this vehicle.....never a good sign.)
