used ULSD in the vw today
was kinda worried at first since its an 89 and i don't know how well the IP would hold up to ULSD. added some additive in there as i always do. i must say i am somewhat impressed. seems like there is alot less smoke. power is the same. fuel economy i cant say much yet as i only put on 50 km. but will find out tommorow i have to drive someone around for 3 hours.

Frankley I'm really supirsed that you've not used USLD prior to this - perhaps even without knowing it. All that's been avalible in Illinois and Wisconsin when I commonly drive has been ULSD, since last summer, or maybe last fall at the latest.
I agree however that there seems to be lots less smoke, and your 52 hp wonder should do just fine with it. Probably a fun little car - eh?

it is a fun little car. gotta keep you speed up on the highway but she handles good and brakes alright. and in the winter with proper snow tires that thing is a tank.

[QUOTE=dj_souvlaki;1735194]all the pumps here are low sulfur diesel. the only ultra low sulfur diesel is at petro canada. haven't seen any other stations with it.
ULSD is the only automotive diesel fuel available in Canada... has been since June of 2006. It's possible that the signs on the pumps at your local fuel supplier haven't been changed to indicate that it is 15ppm.. in fact this is fairly common in many places. If you are in fact getting LSD (500ppm) diesel and not ULSD (light bluish green in color) then the stations supplying it are in violation of federal environmental laws.
