Upgrade from 99 CTD to 06 CTD??????

Lookin to upgrade from the PAID for 99 4x4 5 SPEED CTD quad cab short bed.

Lookin to go to 06 Mega Cab Dually Laramie 4x4, Leather, Navigation, Moonroof, Sprayin liner, Nerf Bars, Click/slide and lock bed cover, DVD, Blue tooth, new tires, blah blah blah. Now for the part that kinda concerns me. 87k w/AUTO and a Edge 6 stage w/monitor and cold air intake. Old man owned since new and all he pulls is bass boat. He says he has never turned programer up and just leaves it on 3. Very clean truck. Asking Price $28,500

Questions:
Will tranny be allright with programmer and many more miles?
Any fuel system concerns like on current tow pig?
Worth the money or not?
Other problems with make/model that I haven't found in my research?

The 48re can handle about 60hp over stck, so if you take care of it and service it regularly, I'd say yes.

You shouldn't have any fuel concerns if you are wanting to stay mild. Filtering on the other hand can be a concern so I suggest at least retrofitting a 2 micron fuel filtering housing in line.

IMO yes very worth the money, the rear leg room will have you very excitable and its a good powerful truck for what it is.

06s have the #4 fuel line cracking due to the isolator rubbing through, be prepared for it, not a bad problem, but a more common occurrence lately

I think you answer your own question.

Is it what you WANT or what you NEED? -- And if it's what you WANT (which it's fine to want a newer truck) is it what you Really Want? It sounds to me like you're not entirely satisfied with what you would be going to. Do you want a payment for that?

I would personally stick with the paid-for truck. Good luck!

Everything about the truck is what I want to go to plus a little extra stuff except I would really like to have the 6 speed. Thats my only hold up. The wife would be able to drive more comfortable with auto, I just need to be (as sure as I can) that the auto will hold up for quite a few miles.

I bought my Meagacab 6 months ago with 92k . It was spotless and flawless, all I have to do now at 105k is ball joints, 1 u-joint, that's it.

You will be VERY happy with it, but I think 28k is a little steep, I paid mine 22k and I have same accessories (be sure about Bluetooth unless is aftermarket, stock OEM did not have it.)

The first things you will notice from the '99 is.... quiet and a whole lot more stock power.

Bluetooth is aftermarket. THis is a DRW so not sure if that is the difference in price or not. Does yours have the programmer and cold air, this one has exhaust also.

Programmer, cold air, and exhaust are maybe $ 1000 extra .

From my experience when shopping 2500 to 3500 Megacabs had very little difference.

I too wanted a 6 speed, but could not afford it.

Also mine was at a dealer with 3,000 miles / 30 days warranty.

Now, if it was a Resistol 3500 I could have gone out of my budget for sure...

Member RVpro has 336,000 + miles on his stock original 48RE in his 05.

It does seem a little pricey. I think you can get a new 09 for not much more, if they are still around.
Will you be towing with it?

From what I have heard, the 09's have most problems resolved. They seem to all be able to be fixed with software updates. They do have more service with emission stuff, that is true. At least they are new, full warranty (And you can buy extended, something I found worth while) and finance terms
Take a look around all the dealers in say, 500 miles. I think you will find som good deals. They may be mostly gone, too.
