update on hummer in Iraq
well yesterday, while our iraqi soldiers were out on patrol, i decided to remove the cat and muffler off my hummer. probably the hardest exhaust i have ever removed. pretty tight under there. sounds a lot better, and now you can hear the turbo spool up and scream. the iraqi's thought i was crazy after i removed it, sitting there gas choking it, listening to it scream. sounds all right, but not like ol bess back home. anyhoo, shouldve done it earlier, but too busy. supposed to be back in nc on the 8th of nov, but just found out we have to stop in cali for some retarded classes we can do in nc and some other stupid stuff. they say we wont be home till the 18th or later of nov. cant complain too much i guess, the army gets extended for months at a time. anyhoo

actually it is "my" hummer. as an officer technically your not supposed to drive hummers, but being an military advisor, we have no one to really sulpport us, and we are a small team, so we all drive, gun, a-drive, etc. i actually have been to the gas lamp area. im from south east tx, kind of redneck area, i say that with pride. it wasnt to impressive to me though. i prefer a bar i can spit on the floor on and not get kicked out. i also tend to hang out with the enlisted more often than the other "cool" officers so not looked at to highly by the academy boys on the O side. my boys have allways been there for me, and me for them. they are the ones that do the work, us officers just get the credit for it. kind of backwards in my opinion. thanks for the support guys. later

I tried to BOMB our humvees here in Kuwait, but after the muffler "fell" off, and the injection pump "mysteriously" advanced a few degrees, I got my butt chewed by my LT. Must be nice to be able to do something. At least I have a cool aftermarket bumper I can over stuff with.

Quick question on the HMMV's...
Since they (last I heard) were running the Detroit 6.5 TD's, do the military versions have the Stanadyne DB2 (mechanical) or the DB4 (electronic with PMD) pumps?
Just wondering since a guy in the next town has been trying to sell his '99 GMC CC/Dually GMC with 6.5L TD. He is now down to $5500 for it, and it is in great shape. Most folks around here are hip to the DB4 problems and have shied away from it. I would consider the truck if it wasn't too much of a hassle to replace the DB4 with a DB2 - kinda like putting a P Pump on a 24V!

sorry your lt is a idiot. why would he get ticked at you for making your hummer run "better" and more "eficient". i am a 1st lt as well, thats why i can say he is an idot. my major doesnt care, and is sure is funny driving around our ao, and people a couple hundred yards down the road strain their necks to see what that sound is.
