General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Barking is hard on turbos basically because the air in the manifold/cold pipes/aftercooler can't go into the engine, so it goes out the way it came.

Imagine your turbo spinning at 140K RPM, then 0 RPM, the 135K RPM, then 0 RPM...it sounds like this, BARK, BARK!!

That's what happens...you take the load off the engine, engine's air "needs" drop, excess air (boost) has to go somewhere

Well, being dork and all, I went to BD and found this.

BD TurboGuard

High horsepower Dodge Ram Cummins Diesel trucks equipped with aftermarket turbochargers will typically display damaging surge characteristics that a TurboGuard can prevent.

BD’s TurboGuard blow-off valve protects your stock or aftermarket turbo from surging and the resulting compressor wheel explosions. This new advanced TurboGuard kit has a microprocessor with 6 different custom settings that are tuned to your application:

• Valve Opening Pressure
• Valve Opening Duration
• Activation Sensitivity
• Clutch Cancellation
• and more

The truck’s throttle position sensor is used to activate this new TurboGuard which results in a fully dynamically controlled blow-off valve. TPS/APPS equipped 12 and 24 valve engines, automatic and standard trucks can benefit from this unit. Toggle switches and micro switches are no longer needed with the new TurboGuard. Protect your high priced-high performance turbo with the security of the NEW advanced TurboGuard.

The BD Turbo Guard is the only proven diesel Blow Off Valve (BOV) in the industry.

Looks real nice, but price sucks....

Yes, but we are talking about basically a check valve. We don't want it to blow off at 50 psi, we only want it to open and let air out when we let off the pedal so it goes out there, not back through the turbo. It doesn't say much about exactly what these do except blow off!

Those BOV's are just like the BD ones...only they uses vacuum from a gasser control them, where the BD uses a computer and pressure to open it...The others could work on a diesel if you could make a contraption to control it!
