Just do what I did , sell your 5 digit price tag CTD , and buy a 600$ jeep cherokee , they have a drain plug

You can buy a drain plug for less than $5 at most auto parts stores. It's a bulkhead fitting with a pipe plug in it, all you have to do is drill a 1/2" hole in the pan.

Yep that's what I did. Now I change 5 quarts whenever I overheat the tranny fluid. over 250*.

they dont have drain plugs for the same reason its so hard to change air or oil filters on some vehicles. more money for the dealer. my dad has a ford escape and you need to take appart the whole intake to change the air filter.

I think the mfg's need to install a dipstick or sight glass on the standard tranny and transfer case and a dipstick on the front and rear differential housing. I have seen them on compressors that you can unscrew a bolt that has a small rigid dipstick on it... very convenient and cleaner that sticking a screwdriver or your finger in it to see what the level is....
Maybe some of you creative types can design and sell them.... The idea is free... just give credit.. lol

I'm thinking maybe a clear PTO cover with a drain plug might be neat for the manual tranny guys.

You want to know what's even dumber? Putting a drain plug on a sealed transmission like Toyota does, because what happens is idiots like me who are in a hurry, mistakenly drain the tranny fluid out when trying to change the oil. And since said sealed transmission doesn't have a dip stick the truck has to be towed to the dealership so they can follow the insanely complicated steps to refill the tranny! NOW THAT'S DUMB!!!!!

That must be similar to the CVT in my wife's Saturn Ion. The procedure is to drain the old fluid, add 6 quarts of new fluid, then hook up the scantool and follow a run procedure while monitoring the on-board computer for trans temperature to determine how much more fluid is needed before putting in the additive. The fluid package is $118 plus about $150 for labor. I'll learn to do it myself, but haven't found a deal on the scantool yet.

We've had a sight glass installed in the billet aluminum G56 side cover for months now, along with an auxiliary fill/drain plug and tapped hole for temp sender... it's part of the FAST cooler retrofit kit.
