Truckless no more! REUNION!
Those of you have that have been on here awhile know that I has to leave my truck behind for a military assignment in Hawaii. Yesterday, I arrived in the balmy resort town of Bismarck, ND and reunited with both my truck and my Dad after almost a year and a half.
Some observations:
-- Dad is still a great guy
-- The Con FE is a grabby fella if you're out of practice
-- The new Smarty Software is cool, but seems to have a tiny hiccup at 2700rpm on the way to 3500.
-- I gave my Dad a dirty truck, and while it's better than when I gave it to him, it's needs some cleaning.
-- Factory LP still giving 13psi idle, 6 WOT
-- Cooper STs on the back are wearing the centers out at only 42psi. How low do they have to be to wear evenly? (265s, even).
-- Faactory gearing with 3.54s and 265 tires is near perfect. It makes me hesitant to run bigger rubber.
LEAKS!
-- there's a small fuel leak that keep the front diff a little greasy. Darn it if I wouldn't like to get rid of this one.
-- It sounds like I have a boost leak, too. It sounds like the gauge line is leaking or something. There's no obvious indication of a leak, though-- EGTs are tough to get over 1200, and boost tops out around 35psi. This is somewhat baffling, because my ears hear a leak that my guages are telling me isn't there
It's GOOD to have the truck back! It's even better when it's paid for and runs great!

a pinhole leak from a pinched gauge line will NOT cause any change in EGT, but would obviously read low on your gauge even tho the motor is still getting 35psi.
I have a pretty sizeable leak in my intercooler that I haven't fixed yet...pulled all summer, run the snot out of the truck, and I still can't see 1600* at 570hp with a single turbo.
Its gonna take a BIG leak to notice an EGT problem.

Hohn welcome back to the mainland. Hope you missed winter in Hawaii as you are just in time for it up there. If you end up getting down here make sure and give a shout.
After running the 285's I agree the 265's with the 354 is a better combo(at least for my type of driving) it just too bad they dont look bigger/better. Not sure that I will go back but I may. And going bigger definitely wont happen without a gear change.

Congrats and welcome home! Maybe we can have a DTR meeting for our relative areas. I know wurkenman is in MN, along with several others... haven't seen very many members from either one of the Dakotas though. I know theres a few trucks from near by states that I'd love to get a ride in... or atleast see how they perform. I'd love to talk to you about fuel systems too...
