They're nice trucks, and if I were made of money and it filled a need I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. My Toyota trucks have been way better than my Fords and Chevys.

"Maximum towing for the Tundra regular cab equipped with the biggest engine and the optional tow package is an impressive 10,800 pounds."

bah.... 10,800 ? weak.
pretty sure it'd get the short end of the stick in a collision vs. a cummins also.

and all the talk about reliability, shoot, i got your reliablilty right here on my odometer... 369,000 miles reliable. bought it with 355,000 !! risky, but has proven its worth for 14,000 already since last winter.

Yes, I agree, but a fresh 440, 454, or 429 built with modern technology like roller cams, good aluminum heads, and EFI will throw down anywhere from 600-800 HP

When looking half ton segment it would be a toss up between the Tundra and GM truck for me.

My last truck was an 05 Toyota Tacoma, and I seriously looked at the new Tundra, but in the end, I went with the 07 3500 quad cab diesel.
It can pull so much more, even if I never need to pull that much, at least I could!
The fuel econemy is much better on the diesel, and here in Canada, diesel costs about 25% less than gasoline!

When I looked for a truck I was interested in a Tundra (not this newest one). When I sat in one, I found the cab very small and uncomfortable, which totally amazed me considering how big the truck is on the outside. Once I realized it has mediocre gas mileage, I moved on. In my choosing I test drove the trucks until I found the one that I wanted to take home with me. It happened to be my Dodge Ram CTD (which, fortunately, my wife considers the best looking truck on the road too). I never looked back, despite Nissan's high clearance Titan and Toyota's new tundra. Too expensive to be working trucks anyway. But if I had to pick from a F150 or Tundra, I think I'd get the Toyota.

The 3/4 tons of 35 years ago would compare nicely with the mid size trucks of today. So what's your point? And a Yugo has more power then any pickup from 75-80 years ago. But I wouldn't own one!!!!!!!!

Also, has anyone seen that toyota tundra 5.7L are being replaced almost daily? The cam shafts are breaking on them, and they have to replace the entire engine when this happens........

I know, I know, "hook a 2 mile long 5th wheel with my D"85" CAT dozer and 100 tons of steel and we'll see what milage it gets with that gasser engine." Okay whatever. Engines have come a long way in 12 years...

Factory specs for '94-'95 Dodge Cummins Automatic trucks:

Power: 160 bhp @ 2500 rpm
Torque: 400 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm

Factory specs for this Toyota "half ton"
-381 hp and 401 lb.-ft.
-10,800 lb towing capacity
-10.5" rear ring gear
-6 speed Auto

Not enough torque? What.

Master Of The Obvious, you're so smart. Contribute something useful. Nowhere did I compare this Toyota to a current 3/4 ton truck of any brand, nor has Toyota. "Current" means 2007, by the way.

Where did 12 years become 35 and then 80 years? Have a numbers problem do we? 4" = 10" also, huh?

I have always stayed out of half fact/half opinion threads. I'll go back to that now.

If Toyota comes out with a diesel 4x4 option, I will seriously look @ one for my work truck. 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. My 04.5 is still a good truck, but I feel I might make more money in the long run with a Toyota. Guess we will see when/if they actually come out. Purchase price and fuel mileage will be the main deciding factors.

On a side note, I have never in my 17 years of driving owned anything other than Dodge products, but being a small business owner now and the biggest expense and main part of my company is a truck. So.... I have to go with what will make me the most money in the long haul.

Not enough torque? What.

With less than $500 of engine modifications, this 13 year old truck would rip that toyota's frame in half. And give me a break.... We had 400ft lbs 14 years ago or better!! Just now toyota comes out with a truck making 401 torque (keep in mind the new diesels are making 250lb ft more with better mileage) and we are supposed to bow down? Give me a break.

Eric
