Toyota Diesel

I work for a Marine Dealer of Nanni Diesels they are Toyota Based Marine motors. The 4.3L is 320hp and 960 torque. I Have not yet seen one on a dyno. there range goes to 3600 Rpm. I would love to see what some of you guys could get out of one of them. they are inline 6 with 24 valve heads. If this motor come out in a pickup it will be bad ***. anyone on here ever work on or hot rod one ??

On a side note I did read that Nissan gave up on the 3/4 ton cause they aint got a diesel yet and Toyota said that they werent going to mess with a diesel right now. I think that was in Diesel Power a month or 2 ago. Anyway I know that has nothin to do with a nanny but I just thought it was interesting.

marine diesels will have a higher sustainable hp rating than otr engines due to the unending supply of raw water for coolant heat exhange and air to water aftercooler(which is more efficient than air-air)
so it wont make that kind of power in a truck, but it would be cool to try.

Nice idea! Maybe we could sell this as a "fill-up diesel hybrid" in which you simply drop by your nearest river, seashore, or pond, and let it fill up with some sore of cool - sounding osmosis-type pump. Then after your "recharge" you could guarantee 70% reduced emissions and 100% improved fuel economy. Sounds like a winner to me!

If you think that's unreasonable, check out the Chevy Volt - all the rage at auto shows this year. That's a Plug-inhybrid electric veichle, that is based off technology that has not been invented yet. See Ward's auto world, April issue: "The Contrarian" if you want the source.

Your right about the heat exhanger but in a boat they also are always running under load. The 320 runs a big non-waste gate exhaust housing and does not realy start to make boost intell 2600rpm. I was hoping to find someone that has worked on them becouse we want to make one boost sooner. EGTs are at 1400 now under full load. This is on a Para-Sail boat that runs 3600rpm but drops to 2600rpm with the Para-Sails up. We need it to boost sooner but also run cool. with the sails up its like a truck going up hill all day long. THANKS!!

The 320s are great replacements for big block chevys. so I would think it would be a very sweet Ski Boat power plant.
I think you can run Red Fuel Your not running on the highway so why would you have to run Taxed fuel.
