General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

A Power Stroke!!!!!!!!!! Just Kidding. the return of the 12v would be great. 500 RWHP not Flywheel HP. Taller tires and stock lift available. And alot of the things that have already been mentioned.

Sheet metal and paint that aren't paper thin and soft. U-Joints that make it more than 30k miles. 7 spd manual tranny (another OD). Better gauges. Seats that don't suck.

what I would like to see.
forest green.
an AC generator in place of the second alternator.
dual tanks. (put the exhaust outside the frame since you cant put fuel there)
on board AIR.
Air bags front and rear.
9.5' dually bed? (QC frame, standard cab) or put a utility box in place of the extra doors.
air lockers
better balanced on the drive train. get rid of all these oddball vibrations an resonances at different speeds.

Seat and driver position memory.. These darn seats adjust so many ways it takes 3 days to get the seat back right if it gets moved..

get rid of the electronic 4X4 selector or at least have the option of manual in the laramie..

Fix the trans and get rid of the reverse honk!!!!

Other than that I love the truck!!!!!

#1, 7 speed that can handle the Cummins w/o dual mass flywheel!

#2, Mega-cab long box.

19.5" option for dually capacity in a SRW 3500.

Beyond that, rain gutters so as to not drop snow in the cab.

Memory/AC seats would be nice,

quieter interior,

Better steering,

factory goose/5th wheel hitch that leaves a flat bed when removed,

factory fluid sensing trailer brake controller...

Agree with a bunch of the ideas... Only one little one that I have not read yet.

Put a button where the steering wheel radio controls are to wipe the windscreen one time. I have never understood why there is intermittent wipers that either don't wipe often enough or just too often. I hate messing with the control when it is mysting outside.

I like lots of the suggestions I have seen. I doubt it will be 10 years b4 they do another generation. The Japanese arent going away (isnt the Diesel in the GM pick ups designed built by Izuzu?) I have heard Diahatsu makes a heck of a Diesel motor too.. I wonder if DC will ever put a Mercedes/Diesel Pick Up out there for the "gulp" "upscale" towers? I thought I heard a rumor about DC putting out a I think they own Freightliner? Pick Up a few years back is that rumor true or dead...
Speaking from a engineering novice point of view what about a Diesel electric set up like in locomotives? Any chance benefit of that being a possibility?
Anyway I was surpised I havent seen these items on the list:
Cupholders..
Factory Cool down timer...
How about a water / fuel seperator switch in the cab or something?
I hate the factory key fob programming of seat belt chimer door lock business.
Slightly longer stock exhaust pipe getting black stuff all over my rear bumper
a CTD badge on the back so folks behind me know exactly who is smoking
them...ha ha....

Put air vents under the front seats on the Quad Cab to give your back seat passengers some air.

And bring back forest green!

- splitter box on the back of the manual trans like the big rigs

- air ride driver seat....I like that idea, those are nice on long trips.

- on board air system, although an air compressor mounted on the engine makes for a miserable nightmare to get at the injection pump

- whatever happened to the transfer cases with 2H, 4H, 4L and yes 2L
that was always nice to have so you could pull, but with a splitter box on the trans and say 10 speeds you could have a pretty deep 1st gear.

Yes, DC owns Freighliner and some of those are getting a Merc engine, if you want it.

How about this for an option, go to the dealer and say.. I want a dodge 3500 dually with the 10 speed Eaton, Dana 80 front and rear with 4.10's. I want the Cummins 6.7L, air ride seats with heated and cooled rump option. Cupholders that don't heat my coke up by sitting on top off the trans.

Or option B: I want a Dodge 3500 dually with the Allison transmission, Dana 80 front and rear, Caterpillar engine....or......the durathing.....if that's what you wanted. You pick the engine, driveline, gearing and set it up how you want it with the best truck body and chassis. If you prefer Fords but want a Cummins with an Allison, then so be it.

Granted technicians at the dealer are going to have a cow, especially when they have to work for GM's warranty times.....oooopppssss, excuse the small jab....rough day at work, something about a hotdog and buns and getting it

That would be a great option....not the hotdog and buns thing!!

Things youŽd like to see on the next gen. Ram OR you could call this, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR CURRENT RAM THAT YOU THINK SHOULD COME ON THE NEW RAM??

Here's what I'd add along all these other great previously stated ideas:

Fuel filter out where you can EASILY change it.
Only an engineer that could/would never change their own filter could design and build something so...utterly in the WRONG place.

Here's a novel idea:
How about doors that won't lock UNLESS you stick the key in the lock AFTER you get out and shut/lock the door from the outside?
Again, why would you need or want something like OnStar (or DodgeStar ) @ $17 per month to unlock your g0d-dammedable doors when all they'd have to do is to make it IMPOSSIBLE to lock your keys in the vehicle in the first place? Talk about creating a problem only to be able to "solve" it by creating almost a whole new industry that costs another $17 a month. Not to mention it's a make work program sponsored by "Designs by Detroit" for fattening up the local locksmith's coffers WORLDWIDE (maybe even the glass companies that profit because someone didn't call the locksmith and punches in a window instead ). Think about it... If you're an older guy like me perhaps you can remember some Chrysler products from the past that came from the factory that had doors that wouldn't stay locked without using the key from the outside*??
Oh the good ol days!!!! Chuck

* or put another way, you get out and push the door lock button down and as soon as you shut the door the button automatically springs back in the unlocked position unless you use that key...that HAS been done on past Chrysler products. Hopefully, like the fads of short skirts and bellbottoms, what was once old can be new again and this comes back in style too. (ya right) Soon as you see $2 a gallon diesel again I predict this will come back too...
