Std Cabs

Because bigger is better.
Anymore almost all I see are quad cabs and very few extended cabs.
I prefer a regular cab myself... I just like the looks.
And it means I never get a ton of junk that I have to clean out, and that I don't end up having to haul around a couple of whiny little kids...

I wanted a regular cab as well, I don't carry a lot of people around and also like the look. While looking for rigs I found three regular cabs in the entire state of Colorado and one in Wyoming, I was able to get the quad cab for less. I've noticed regular cabs are much more common back here in New England, I don't know what's up with that.

The dealers order in very few regular cabs, it seems. I think they like the fact that they make more on the big cab models. Also, there are fewer buyers looking for standard cabs, so that's a factor. All in all, though, I think dealer ordering practices shortchange the regular cab buyer, and in a lot of cases, buyers who really wanted a regular cab have to take something else.
In searching for my new '05 regular cab, I found lots of dealers in my neck of the woods with rafts of loaded up extended cabs and nary a regular cab in stock. Those that did have regular cabs almost always had them in base trim, white in color, with few comfort options. Clearly they were stocked for sales to businesses.
The truck I was looking for, 4x4 CTD 6 spd SLT regular cab long bed with certain options, turned out to be the rarest thing on the lots. A 500 mile radius search turned up only three, and none in the molten red color I really wanted (got "Dodge" red instead).
Naturally, all of this is reflected in the used truck market, too. Plus you have condition issues that someone in the market for a new truck doesn't have to deal with.
I feel your pain. Good luck with your search.

I had a dealer search for '06 std cab and there were 6 in all of Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
What I really want is something like a Rabbit pickup diesel (4X4) but they stopped offering Rabbit pickups sometime in the early eighties.
Why no diesel in a 1/2 tons in US? What's up with that? It's like all the truck makers got together and decided not to produce a diesel 1/2 ton. I guess that's why used french fry oil will continue to supply the bio diesel demand for a while longer.
Ohio is too far away. We are moving from Hawaii to Oregon (don't ask why...wifey got island fever) in November and will need something right off the airplane since our car will be on a boat and we are leaving our Ram 1500 with 106K miles here in Hawaii.

Not to mince words, but if you can haul a couch, refer or washing machine in the back, it's a truck. And I need a truck. I prefer a diesel but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. I refuse to buy more than I need just because auto manufacturers are too short sighted or want the extra profit from needlessly piling on the extras and making a basic version virtually unavailable.

The 2.7 L diesel in the Jeep Liberty CRD would do nicely in the 1500 Ram. They use the same engine in the big Sprinter commercial van. I'll wager they don't offer it in the 1500 because of fear that it would cut into CTD sales in the bigger trucks.
I suspect they are right.
If you don't need to haul or tow large loads, but really want a diesel, you could look at a Liberty CRD, which can tow quite a bit for its size, and a small utility trailer. When what you want is unobtanium, sometimes you have to roll with the tide and go with the flow.
