To stack or not to stack?

I'm curious to hear from anybody who has converted from the standard exhaust to dual stacks behind the cab: what is the difference in noise level before and after? I love the look of stacks, but am wary of generating more noise inside the cab. thanks for your time.

Well...I landed up putting stacks on my truck...Took me a year before I decided, but through peer pressure I did it.

I ran my truck for about a week in town and highway...Forget it...It was to loud.I install a BDS muffler and I couldn't even tell I had stacks...But that was with 36 inch stacks that were to tall...I cut them down a good 6 inchs, just a few inchs above the cab...The noise increased but it still is not bad at all...I get no drone at all on the highway either.I'm not into loud noise...but it worked out ok.The only thing that I notice about stacks that I don't like ,is the blind spot it creates on the drivers side...Here are pics of the height.

what is your cab configuration? that will play a large role in how loud it is inside the cab. I have a QB and when I put my stacks on (36" turnouts) I still had the cat on. it was louder than w/ a tailpipe but it wasn't too bad. then I straight piped it and it was really loud. it was horrible pulling a load going up any kind of grade. You couldn’t even talk to the person beside you sometimes. now I’ve got a muffler and a resonator and it’s not bad at all. you hardly notice it when driving around town w/ the widows up. granted you hear it pretty good if you lay into the throttle. would i change it or do something different...no. i love the stacks. i'll post up a pic later of my truck so you have an idea what mine look like.

I've got a single cab, and will never be pulling any major loads. funny, before reading your replies, I hadn't even thought of using a muffler. seems like an obvious addition, though, when concerned about noise. duh on me.

I took my factory resonator and muffler off and added a 4" core 36" Donaldson muffler...From there through the bed to a manifold of 3" X 5" square tubing...It splits there into two 5" core resonators and 36" pipes topped with silent rain caps...The sound level is just where I want it although sometimes I'll open the slider rear window to hear it a little better......Ben

She be loud with no muffler, especially towing a mountain at 40psi and over 2k rpms. No amount of music will drown out the sound. I am eventually going with a 5 inch full system when I get around to it.

With mufflers it ain't bad at all. I had 2 flo-pro twister race mufflers on in this vid. The truck is now straighted, and quite abit louder.
