General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Now THOSE are ugly!

And the Cummins in the Gremlin is actually do-able. What you do is get a frame off of a Jeep Wrangler; Jeep Wranglers actually have the same wheel base and width as the AMC Gremlin. You then put the 6BTA into that frame, which has been done many times, and then you put the Gremlin body onto the top of that frame.

It will be done, I tell thee. If I total this truck anytime soon, I may have to do it just to prove that it's possible.

There was a conversion in TDR's Conversion forum a while ago that had a Cummins in an AMC Javelin. Of course, it was only a Javelin body on top of a crazy high custom fabricated suspension, but it was kind of cool just the same. Darn thing was about 6 feet high to the bottom of the door.

Anyways, the point is that Gremlins are the coolest cars ever, and the best cars ever were AMX's.

AMC WILL RISE AGAIN!!!

HMM imagine that Ford's dropping the "new" 6.0 after only 3 model years? How long has Cummins been building the same, reliable motor? Around 17 years?
(yes, I know it's different now than it was in '89, but it's still an 5.9 in-line 6)

You are partially correct; the 444 E is a 7.3L, a slightly de-tuned 7.3 V-8 Powerstroke. The VT 365 is a rather de-tuned 6.0 Powerstroke. The recently-released VT 275 is the V-6 that Ford rejected for F-150's, but is now in the little cabover that Ford is selling. The DT 466 & later DT 466 E (electronic), as well as the DT 530 E are all I-6 engines that are the optional engines in thier medium-duty trucks and busses. Yes, that's correct, they charge more for an I-6 engine, they expect it will hold up longer.

And Begle1, don't worry about liking an under-dog player such as AMC. At least your company has pretty much gone away and you really don't have to put up with what it became as a marketing job for another major company. I purchased (and really enjoyed) an '82 Saab 900 Turbo in college, but already GM had thier hands upon them - officially purchasing Saab in 1989. Their 9-3 and 9-5 today are mostly GM designed. Then there is the "9-2x" which is a Subaru WRX, and that wonderful "9-7x" which is a Trailblazier. The WRX is a nice car if you want a Subaru, but it's along way off from the old 900 Turbo I used to drive. Oh well...

Yeah it is ugly....comparably so to the '06 Dodge dually with the huge headlights & grill and nasty fenders. I'm keeping my '01 forever
The family truckster.....lol...."why is it making that sound Clark?, all new cars do that (dieseling) honey"
I bet that Turd is well over $50k too....'cause it's a "Super Duty" with twins....

It isn't the VT-365 that gives us any trouble. It is the junk on it to please them EPA people. EGR, and VGT mostly. A few sensors here and there.
It is not just International engines going through this. Everyone else is having the same problems. EGRs on Cummins, CATs only going 6 months on Cats, at a grand a peice. Stuff that is coming to the Cummins in Dodge trucks. Along with junk fuel heading our way.
