The sound that makes my heart ache.

That 24V(not CR) Cummins and a straight pipe.

Nothing sounds quite like it, I really miss my old truck.

There are so many nice things about the new truck that I love but if there was one thing I could change it would be the exhaust sound. Even with deletes and a straight pipe it just doesn't seem that loud and seems so different than the older trucks.

I was in the parking lot today and heard that unmistakable sound, and I can't help but just wish I had the old truck still.

Anyone else feel this way? I would probably mod whatever I could to get that sound, maybe that just means a engine transplant years from now

Did find this video though!

http://www.youtube.com/v/KkP8Wtvr7Z4&hl

Wonder if there were more mods than just the manifold, ie cam.

EDIT:
"2nd gen exhaust manifold swapped onto my 2007 5.9. Also a HTT 62/65 - 12cm turbo, 4" Hx40 downpipe, 4" MBRP resonator into a 5" stack."

I need to do this!

All the swaps I see seem to be with a 5.9 only, anyone done it on a 6.7L?
Was the manifold common from the 5.9 to 6.7?

Yeah and I think you can do the same to the 6.7 too.

I think that video is from a member on this site.

I thought I read that the head was shared on the 6.7 from the 5.9, can any one confirm that?

Does anyone know the flange type on the HE351CW? I am feeling out level of fabrication if needed to swap the manifolds, move/adjust the lines

I don't think the 6.7 would ever sound the same at the 24 valve non-common rail. The main reason is the VGT, if you went back to a regular turbo with the 24 valve exhaust it should work.

That video on you tube of the CR with the 2nd gen manifold does have a aftermarket single turbo, and sounds very much like the older trucks.

Someday I will upgrade the turbo but not for a long time. I am hoping that I can put the 2nd gen manifold on the 6.7L, just use a T3 to VGT adapter plate and mount it back up, with minor adjustments to the plumbing.

I was scoping it out today, what in the heck is the small hard line that runs from the exhaust manifold to what looks like the T-stat housing, it's about a 1/4 tubing.

the 5.9 manifold will fit. you won't be able to use your VGT turbo

its a pressure line that goes to a pressure sensor near the t-stat

I thought a flange adapter from T4i to T3 was all i needed for that, what are the other issues?

plus a 2nd gen manifold puts the turbo in a total different location. might be able to git r dun with some creative plumbing

all in all you won't really be able to get that true 2nd gen sound. injection pressures are so much higher than the earlier model trucks along with multiple injection events quiets down the noise.

Yeah I know nothing will sound quite the same, but the one I heard did sound amazing for a CR and quite different, and I love to modify things!
