Question ? for someone with a pyro guage

Could someone tell me what is the EGT is with the truck not moving in neutral or park, with the engine turning at 1800 RPM? Just curious, since I have a generator at work that starts up and immediatly runs up the 1800 RPM and also shuts down at 1800 RPM. I would like to know what temps it sees before it shuts off.

your egts would be higher than normal because you have an extra load on the engine, i would suggest getting a pyrometer so you can have proper cool down time for you engine before you shut down

EGTs are much more dependent on load than rpm. Way to many factors to compare a truck to a gen-set even if the engine, turbo, and exhaust were exact copies.

Right, I understand that, however I am just looking for a ballpark figure. I have three gensets that I maintain.

A 15kW three phase powered by a N/A 4cyl Kubota, 1800 RPM
A 60kW three phase powered by a N/A Hino diesel, 1800 RPM
A 125kW three phase powered by a 8.3L Cummins, 12V turbocharged, 1800 RPM.

I just need EGT in neutral to simulate a no-load shutdown temp. I am primarily concerned about the big genset with the turbo. I don't have access to a pyro guage to know the temps.

With no load it will come down to 250 - 300 degrees. As long as you let it run with no load for 3-5 minutes the turbo will still cool off even at 1800 RPM.

If you can't get pyro's, you could get a heat gun and shoot the temps.

Don't forget most of those Onan/Cummins gensets have pyrometer probes DOWNSTREAM of the turbo. This will make your max T a few hundred degF lower than if it were pre-turbo.
Lots of discussion about Pre/Post turbo on this and other CTD sites.

A pyrometer is cheaper than most heat guns.

Bought mine (Isspro, Original analog series) from www.dieselpage.com

1800 rpm for about 3 min 300* no load.
