My last oil change cost me $30.00, $10.95 for the filter and 3 gallons of oil @ $6.35 a gallon. I still have about 40 gallons left over from when I sold my Mack.

Do it yourself, just keep your receipts. IMHO dealerships just drop the oil and fill it back up. The alternator could be falling off and if it didn't make itself plain as day, they wouldn't tell you about it, let alone see it.

 

50 extra bones does sound good in my pocket. But I think I'll let them do the first fuel filter change so the next ones going to be a dealer change.

 

For what most pay for oil at the dealership they can go buy there own oil and have them install it like I do for $12.00 that way you know what brand of oil is going in to your engine and it will keep Dodge happy for a paper trail record of it being done. FYI, each dealership can use any kind of oil they like unless its for warranty work and then they have to use Mobile oil or so my dealer told me anyway.

 

Nobody will deny warranty because you change your own oil. Matter of fact, the only thing we checked for any warranty claims that came in our Dodge dealer was the odometer , not even the log book.

 

You sound like a service advisor... Think it would be a good idea to get them to change the first fuel filter. From what I've seen and heard they super tighten everything from the factory and I wouldn't want to bugger anything up.

 

I have my dealer do my oil changes, around $80.00 every fourth one is free. Averages out to $60. With what the oil, filter, my time and hassle and taking the used oil for disposal this is a no brainer for me. Fuel filter on the other hand they want $140 to change! I do that myself.

Don't let the dealer scare you guys into taking your ride to them for basic service. That is what they are trying to do. They always seem to slip in a comment about maintenance and voided warranties unless the dealer does it. Well, I have done my own maintenance for 18 yrs now on about 10 different vehicles and never once has the warrantee been canceled. But when I purchased every one of those vehicles the dealer made the same claim.

 

I can do the oil and fuel filter in about 30 minutes. You can get some nice synthetic in there for less than what you're paying if you do it yourself. As far as disposal, I just take mine to Checker's and let them deal with it. It's free.
My truck has been to the shop once, and that was for U Joint warranty work. I haven't paid for maintenance on anything I've owned for about 8 years.

 

Yeah, fuel filter on the 5.9 is real easy. NOT so on the 6.7l. Gotta remove the wheel & fender well unless ya got 4 foot long arms to get it loose from the bottom. Still no room to get the filter out from the bottom or top!! Can't believe they did that.

 

My whole thing is I'd rather them break into the canister, pop all the bolts loose, and get the original oil filter off so I don't have to hassle with superman strength stuff that I might break or get frustrated with.

But for $140 for a fuel filter I'll probably do it myself. I'll probably do the oil changes from here on too.

 

My dealership offers 29.99 for diesel and 9.99 for gassers. I am sure they make it up on the "other" services they sell while you are there.

Thats an awful cheap price they must be putting water in the crankcase. They are not making any money at all.

 

My dealer service department had a special for the first year $26.95 for diesels with every fifth one free. Went up to $29.95 and no free one for about six months. Now I get a coupon every 60-90 days for $36.95. At that price and since I can stand there and watch, they will be doing it for a while.

 

what dealer in houston is doing this? Hope I didn't miss any deal since I took it to a different dealer.
