So.. I paid for an oil change.

82 bucks! Made sure to tell him to lube the front driveshaft and he actually wrote it down as if this is a special request .

Changed it early at 7200 miles since my friend noticed the chalk date on the engine said 7-2-06 when we were putting the lift on it... I figured it is a year old and needs to be changed.

I'll again pay for the next one and for a fuel filter at 15K at the dealer just to make sure my paperwork is straight if anything happens.

This is the first and most expensive oil change I've ever paid for.

After that it'll be 10K and fuel filter every other change done at my shop.

Think I'm over reacting by taking it to the dealer? On my Hemi I got a few free oil changes when I bought it that I used. Figured if the engine is a piece of EDIT it would fail quickly and I'd want a paper trail of my maintenance....

Most folks find the first oil change is a real pain if they do it themselves. The factory filter is usually super tight and the clear coat doesn't help either. That said, $82 isn't bad if you include the aggravation factor.

I think you're smart having the dealer do the first change.
Chrysler is notorious for finding anything they can to get out of warranty cases, one of them is not having your oil changed by an "authorized" shop.

My first oil change was "on the house" Dealer paid it as courtesy of buying new truck there. The computer called for it @ 2,400 miles. The second oil change, done by the dealer, was @ 13,000 miles and cost me $125.00 due to having to use the lower ash CJ 4 oil. Yikes!! Third change was same price - $125.00. So I get a coupon in the mail for a Diesel oil change @ $65.00. Dealer did the 4th change honoring the coupon but pointing out that the coupon price was only for the regular 15/40 NOT for specialty oils such as the CJ 4 oil. It still came out to $83.00 by the time they put on the sales tax, disposal fee etc.
Now I have to make a decision to either pay the $125.00 per change @ each 10k miles or do it myself. Not that I can't do it myself, but like you, I want the maintenence paper trail. I still do the fuel & air filter with each oil change cause I can't imagine how much the dealer would charge to do the fuel filter, since now you have to remove the wheel and fender well to get to the fuel filter.
I miss the extended warranty I had on the 04.5 which included 28 FREE oil & filter changes.

My last one was about $65 and I'm due in about 800 miles. I decided that I'd do all the under warranty oil changes at the dealer just to avoid the issues if I had a problem. The local Express Oil where I was going with the 93 was only $3 cheaper than the dealer. Seemed like good insurance to me.

I'll just keep good receipts after the next one and do it myself. The paper trail is nice but I can do it for a lot cheaper and quicker.

The best part was they stuck the oil change sticker on my window that said it was due in 3,000 miles ... I just noticed that today. I'll probably go 11K on my third and there after .

I always have to remind them about the interval. I like to do mine at 6000. It's the habit I got into with the 93 and it works for me.

Heck, cummins says change the oil, oil filter and fuel filter every 15,000 miles. Only problem is I don't know what CG-4 oil is, if that's the new oil for the emissions diesels I've heard you are not supposed to run that anyway.

I don't know about the oil but there have been a couple of good threads on it lately. My manual said 15,000 if you weren't towing. The towing interval was 7500. I tow 9-12k most of the time so I just opted for a lower interval. Like I said, I'm just used to it. I plan on keeping this truck for 10 years like the last one.

Good thinking you can never be safe enough when it comes to maintenance.

Maybe someone that knows will run across this, the search function won't pull anything up for me.

Joe, If it's your first, it has to be the most expensive! There's nothing else to compare it to!!

Oh, I'm just getting going.....that's what clicked in my mind. I know what you were meaning, I think!

Ah yes... that was what I meant. Although I did get it changed one time in my mom's toyota and it was less than $30.

Every time mine gets close to being due for a change, the dealer sends me an email with a reminder and a discount coupon for 50 bucks.
Somehow, they always seem to find "extra stuff" that they say has to be done.
At least if something does go wrong, they have a record of when the truck was in for service.
Besides, I dont have the resources to disposes of the old fluids and Im getting to old and cranky to DIY.

Quick Reply: So.. I paid for an oil change.
