I think I will stay out in the country here in Ohio. It may get cold and have some snow and rain but I don't have to worrie about no cop giveing me a ticket for too much smoke. One reason is because most of them have had me work on their trucks or have chips in them I love counrty cops.

I would have sent them a picture of my butt with a big lipstick kiss on the right cheek and told them where to stick it. But that's just me.

I'm interested in seeing the response they send. I'd ask for a hearing and have the witness appear (bet he/she doesn't) if they give you a hard time. Whent that's dismissed, I'd send some letters with copy's of that to the press, complaining about waste of resources. Are there two witnesses? He says you did it, you say you didn't. Who tilts the scale? Put a bug in Arnold's ear about how the money might be better spent on other programs, even police officers who can interpret the law a little more profficiently. Just where did that person get certification on pollution control, emissions? If you were interfereing with traffic, it should've been handled differently. I read this as a tactic to scare you into compliance, I'm not confident they have anything to stand on with the information given.

Or.......You could tell them that the infamous, and endangered "Black Soot Hoot Owl" lives within the confines of your tailpipe and that you are doing your darndest to supply it with its daily quota of soot to keep it healthy. And NO, they cannot inspect for said owl because it's habitat is endangered also by the very tree-huggers that set out to protect it in the 1st place.

I'm glad they put in the 4000' thing. They get it alright.

Us high elevation, slow to spool types tend to emit more.

Hey DM01, I hate to tell you, but you can get a smoke ticket in the Buckeye too. BTW, I grew up 40 miles east of Cleveland.

So far I've filled out the reply form, but I haven't decided whether or not to send it back. The top of the letter says something like "This is not a Citation".....

air resource

I have been reading about the smoke police , actually here in CA there are lot of air recource guys running around giving citation for smoke , these guys are certified to give tickets out just on visual observations and no meters , they come by our shop always asking how calibrations can be changed or get around some pollution devices , especially now with all of our engines are now EGR . they can require you to have a opacity test done on any diesel , dodge or class 8 , and if doesn't pass , you will have to repair it and can be fined. these guys treat it like some game , you will find billboard along some freeways here in CA telling people to turn in license nunbers of polluters with a 800 number listed.

Cowhand,

Check this out. A friend of mine that lived near you got one of hose notices referring to a vehicle that had not been driven or moved off his property in five years! They must be sending those notices out randomly. I hate it.

I think they should take a good look at themselves, They emit so much hot air that I think the greenhouse gasses are expanding, Also wile I am on this they should take a shower and get rid of that all natural smell. I can believe that some one would send you a letter about the emmisions from you truck. As you can tell I am not to crazy about this group of people. I have to watch these people try to make rules in our state and tell use what we can and cannot do from there own screw ups.
