should i add lube guard??

i drive empty and power levels are stock...tranny is working just fine no complaints

here's the issue...winter has hit up here and everyone has slowed down on the roads thing is im now stuck in that situation where 3rd gear lockup occurs a lil too soon and at too low rpms (1500 rpms) then id like honestly...so i dont really wanna take my foot on and off the pedal to unlock all the time AND i feel running in 2ng gear is not enough speed
as u would imagineim getting a lil bit of shudder at such rpms
....im running mercon/dexron 3 ...no complaints

im thinking of addign the lubeguard or similar type to softe the lockup during winter driving then in spring the tranny is getting flushed anyhow

suggestions please.....

ps i really would rather like for lockup to occur when i get my rpms to where id like them to be before lockup occurs that would be my ideal scenario ...i dont really have a heavy foot at all so i get the low rpms lockup more than id like in the winter

You might consider a lockup switch so you can manually control lockup, or a tranny controller so you can program where you want lockup to occur.
I don't know that any additive to the transmission fluid can be a good thing. Perhaps someone else has experience with this sort of additive.

Tranny expert Bill K at DTT recommends Lube-Gard with Dexron if you experience shutter, otherwise you can skip it. Adding it when you don't have shudder will be no problem. I always routinely add a bottle with every ATF (Dexron) change, Lube-Gard is great stuff.

I just installed a lockup switch that runs trnny in normal, locked or unlocked. In unlocked the TC will never lock up. Cheap and easy to do.

hey bill (infidel) is the lube guard in a class by itself or can i use any decent "smooth shift" additive for the tranny? i got a couple unopened bottles in the garage of something called "ultra smooth" got it at canadian tire couple months back

hey carl i was thinking of wiring up that switch when the weather breaks a bit here...thing is i wanna hook up something that allows me to postpone the lockup...ive only been reading up on a two way switch here...either the tranny functions normal in one position and then the other way is forcing lockup by flipping the switch

i need a three way switch.....one for unlocking, locking and stock OR something where i control the lockup all the time but id rather have the three way

if u have the schematics for that or found a link plz let me know i truly appreciate it

If I can figure out a way to do a simple drawing I will put it here. I'll give it a try tomorrow. All you need is a double pole double throw switch from radio shack or similar store and some wire and connecting loops. With my sw up I get normal operation, with it in center position it interrupts the line from tranny to computer preventing lock up, with switch down it applies a ground to the computer to tranny line giving constant lock.

I remember seeing a wiring diagram setup for a LOCKED, UNLOCKED and AUTO switch. I'm too lazy to search for it but it is here somewhere! Happy hunting!

Mr T I sent you a PM. The one I use just has a double pole double throw switch and is manual control only. Real easy to put together and no relays to buy. Could not figure out how to get the drawing file into the thread . See your PM.

I meant hunting for the thread but I like the tranny idea better!

After I posted I decided to look for the thread anyway.
