ya i just got an email from the guy and he said all that he had done was all fluids changed. He also has no recipts for any work ever done to the truck and doesn' keep them for any of the trucks he sells. Plus he doesn't know how bad the flood damage was. On top of all of that he wants $10K, that is what the truck is worth with a clear title. I guess he just doesn't know what he is doing so no truck for me. I did bit on another one though that is very nice and a great deal:
Lifted Cummins
what do y'all think. My friends cummins is very close to this one with out the tires and good paint and he paid close to $10k.

Link is dead with my browser....
Modified (lifted) trucks are also worth less than stock, but you may be able to find a deal if it's been done right. Generally speaking, it's been best in my experance to avoid salvage titles, and the dealers who sell these vechiles.
Many may disagree, but life's too short for this sort of worry...

I'm with 95 12V, what's wrong with buying a regular truck off of a regular lot or private person?
Lifted trucks are great, when you do the "lifting" yourself. I would be wary of any truck that has had suspension mod's that I didn't do or didn't have done by someone reputable.

I'm with PJ on this one. I have no problems with salvage titles, like i said we own a salvage Jeep. But I agree with 2 things i see wrong- 1. The seller isn't supplying much information about what he did or what exactly happened to the truck- any vehicle reseller should be very happy to keep all receipts for anything done (we always put together a folder of any previous receipts and add any we get); and 2. I try to avoid modified trucks, especially when the seller wasn't the one who modified it, and doesn't know the quality of work, and can't tell you the extent of the modifications.
When we bought our '98 Cherokee, the seller was very honest. He deals with salvage vehicles a lot, with minor damage only. I asked what exactly happened to our Cherokee, and he went over everything it needed-it was a theft recovery- door locks replaced, new steering column trim cover, new ignition switch keyed to the locks, a minor ding to the rf fender and bumper trim, and one nicked wheel. We got a good deal on it (already repaired), and did find a few minor things after driving it a while- the dinged wheel was bent slightly ($20 on ebay), the driver's door power lock didn't work (20 minutes to pull door panel and fix bent linkage), and after owning for 6 months, it needs a water pump. 122K miles now, so it had nothing to do with the theft.
Just an example of one of our experiences, and what you might get if you look around and look lucky.

Bosshawg, may have a friend selling basically the same truck, with a clear title. 97 SLT Larime 3500 dually auto extended cab, but has 380,000 miles, still runs like a top, wants $7500 FIRM, no rust (spent first 320K miles in Georgia) 1 dent. I am 95% sure my brother is going to buy it tomorrow, but if for some reason he doesn't I'll let you know

The resale value on these things is outright ridiculous. 380K is a pretty good clip!
We were applying for a mortgage a few weeks ago and the loan officer asked how much my truck was worth,(since I still owe)
I said, "Aw, I really have no clue, I have had it for a ltttle over 2 years now, paid $25K for it with 30,000 miles"?
I owe $13,500 with 74,000 miles on it now, I told her
"about $16,000."
After we got home, I got to thinking..........
Some of the prices in the classified here are out of hand.
Doesn't matter much to me, I'll have this truck well after it's payed off, I just can't imagine paying some of these prices with the kind of miles people are selling them at.

Ya prices a re prety crazy right now. The problem with high miles is if I buy one my intrest rates satart doubleing after 100k no matter if it is a diesel or not. I think the lifted CTD in my gallery that I won is a good deal. Good body condition, a few mods, looks sweet and has lower miles. Plus the price is exactly what I want to pay for a diesel. The kicker for me is I called the dealership a month ago and the wanted $11500, and I won it for 8k, so I think I got a deal. But if I go there and there is anything worng with it I won't buy it. I will keep all of you posted. Maybe they will sell me another truck they have instead of this one.
Stateline keep me posted on that other truck I might have something go wrong with this deal and need another truck.
