Running on vegetable oil

Has anyone tried running their cummins on vegetable oil or a blend of diesel and vegetable oil?

I have heard of some diesel owners doing this and with the high cost of fuel and potential for going higher, this could be a useful alternative.

There are several threads here dealing with bio diesel. This thread is one of the more informative.

Biodiesel isn't the same as vegetable oil and should go though a process unless you are using it in a small percentage. If you can get on the base at Port Hueneme they have the largest plant for turning vegetable oil into fuel there. Read about it here

Met a guy last year in Yellowstone Park looking for used vegetable oil. He was going cross country using the veg oil. He filtered it , then mixed it with gasoline.

I guess he knew what he was doing but I would never even consider doing it.

man , this stuff is hard to get. i went to the BIODIESEL website, and it listed 4 suupliers within 100 miles of me. so i figure i`m gonna get it. The first place i call says they are a supplier, and thier tanks have been dry for a couple of months appearently, there are not many local suppliers ( maybe 1 ) and they cant keep upi production so alot of the local guys dont want to commit to a product they cant keep in supply. Cant say i blame them. It`s my beliefe that the feds need to get onboard to help get the word out. whether its with tax incentives, or perhaps some funding, or even education for he refiners, suppliers etc....

With all these fastfood places alone , there has to be an abundant source of WVO. when i was younger , i worked in a resturaunt and we had a dumpster in the back just for used oil. I dont know where it went, maybe it WAS recycled.....but i`m not sure.

Then , we will also be keeping our $$ in THIS country with the soy crops being used. I cant believe that we paid farmers to turn thier crops, and we CANT pay them to grow some beans for a fuel source

ok i`m done

I know this has ALL been covered, but i just spent an hour on the phone , and i`m not any closer to burning the bean than i was yesterday

dodgedude, time to exercise your rights in a democracy.
Get on the horn to your state representatives and tell them.
Several states have passed laws that will require all diesel sold contain a certain amount of bio. Yours could be next, there is really no logical reason not to.

Bio is really easy to make yourself, especially in quantities to use as an additive to each tank, say 20%.

Do a search on Google and look for journey to forever website, they have lots of good info on how to do it.

There are also those that belive with a few small mods to your vehicle, mainly heated fuel lines and heated auxillary fuel tank and some filters you can just put the used vegi oil straight in.

Do the reaserch and decide for yourself...

And the ricer said.....
.....and we were beside this loud Dodge Ram at the stop light. When the light turned green the Ram took off and we couldn't really move because of the smoke cloud that Dodge left...... but it wasn't too bad because suddenly we all smelled Mc Donalds, got hungry and forgot about the Dodge......

I'm lookin into Biodiesel around here. 2.10 a gallon is the first quote I have gotten.
