ridiculous fuel filter story

so i decided to change the fuel filter a couple weeks back been 2 years since i bought the truck and still had the previous owner's filter on her....so i got one from canadian tire (mistake!)...i put her on and everything ran great till my fuel gauge dropped worse than a 460! i was guzzling and then people were honking at me so i pulled her over....i was leaking horribly from the water separator (so i thought) i thought to myself this is ridiculous i went through 50$ of diesel in 30 min so i wrecked my shirt and pants took that filter off and retightened the separator on and started it and things were fine...i was still puzzled cause i tightened it the first time and never overlooked anything ....anyhow later on the weekend we decided to take a trip up northern ontario about 400kms up north it made it there no problem...on the way back it guzzled again ...my stomach sunk cause i had a feeling what it was it was sunday 5 pm mind u and i pulled into a lil town and YEP she was leaking....i replaced the rubber seal and no luck put different seals on and no luck ...it always appeared to be leaking from the water separator seal well later on i held the filter up and wiped it down and stared at it...there was a microscopic crack in the filter itself and then poured down over the seal and made it look EXACTLY like it came from the seal....needles to say i was upset...i went through another 50$ of fuel...had to sleep in the truck to get aNAPA filter the next morning and had to clean and air out the truck for aweek to get the diesel smell out....oh yeah lost wages at work since monday was lost....same with my uncle and my dad

nice huh

Just goes to show that you get what you pay for. Fuel filters aren't cheap either.

For the most part, CTC is a pretty good store, especially as of last 2-3 years, but before that, Yah might as well ask the kid for fries with Your brake pads cause he/she has no idea what a Your talkin bout anyways. Wish Canada had a big auto-part superstore as the States has, not just only 1 might I add. How was the fishin, which lake Yah go to.

A bad overflow valve that intermittently sticks closed can drive your fuel pressure up over 100 psi and crack any filter. Seen it happen a couple of times.
Suggest you check your FP or replace the overflow valve.

Cheapest by far is
Precision Diesel Injection and Turbo Inc.
Marty Tompkins
888-734-7349
$35 + $7 shipping and handling.

but I don't know the cost of getting it across the border.
Cummins wants about $75 USD and the dealer close to $200
