Resale Dodge Vs. Ford

Resale Dodge Vs. Ford
OKAY HERE IT IS I WAS TALKING TO A FRIEND YESTERDAY ABOUT THE RESALE VALUES OF TRUCKS. WHILE TALKING HE BROUGHT UP THAT THE FORD POWERSTROKE HOLDS ITS VALUE BETTER THAN THE CUMMINS BECAUSE OF THE NAME AND DEPENDABILITY. NOW WE CAN ALL SEE THE ERROR IN HIS LOGIC BECUASE WE ALL KNOW THAT THE CUMMINS IS OUT OF THE BALL PARK WHEN COMPARED TO THE POWERSTROKE. THEN I GOT TO THINKING ABOUT IT ALL. AND I CAN'T FIND JUSTIFICATION FOR THE FORD TO HAVE BETTER RESALE VALUE. (DIESELS ONLY) BECAUSE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT THE FIRST THING ANY SEMI KNOWLEDGABLE TRUCK BUYER KNOWS THE ENGINE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND MOST EXPENSIVE COMPONENT of THE VEHICLE. AND WITH THAT IN MIND CUMMINS HAS THE UPPER HAND. THEN THERES THE TRANNY BUT NIETHER TRUCK AS A TO DIE FOR TRANNY. SO WE WILL JUST CALL THAT A DRAW. AS FOR THE REST OF THE VEHICLES THEY BOTH HAVE LITTLE ISSUES BUT NONE OF THESEIN MY OPINION WOULD OFFSET THE MARGIN SET FORWARD BY THE ENGINE. NOW WITH JUST THE SHEER MECHANICS IN MIND WHICH IS WHAT YOU BUY WHEN YOU BUY A TRUCK WOULDN'T THE DODGE CUMMINS JUSTIFY A HIGHER RESALE THAT THE FORD. NOW I KNOW THAT SUPPLY AND DEMAND ALL PLAYS A FACTOR SO DOES OTHER FACTORS BUT I DON'T THINK ALL THAT IS REALLY THAT IMPORTANT IS IT? SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Go to autotrader.com and compare prices for the powerstrokes and the cummins,The cummins is always 1000 to 1500 more.I found that out when hunting for mine.It looks to me like there are alot more powerstrokes to ,so that makes the cummins higher.Look at kelley blue book and the cummins adds like 2500 or more to the value of the truck even with 300000 miles on one.

well, around here all the contractors have stopped buying CDT's and started buying superduty's cause the front ends don't fall out of em down in the mine. Mind you they've smashed the trucks to pieces long before the motors on either one go, the SD's just last longer
I've also noticed it doesn't seem to matter if it's a Powerstroke, Cummins or a duramax , they don't sit on the dealer lot long at all around here

Take a look at all the dealer lots or used truck lots. How many Dodges do you see compared to Fords. Most of the lot's around me have a bunch of Fords but not much in the way of Dodges. It there is a Dodge there, it's not for long!

I was just noticing something the other day.
The Ford stores around here always seem to have 1 Dodge placed prominently in the front of their used lot.
Would be interesting to run a Car Fax on it and see if it was indeed traded to them.

Phox being in the car business I see a lot of this. Many used car managers I talk to say if the car/truck is in good shape and clean they will gladly put it on their lot. I mean take today for example there was a 02 Dodge Durango with 27K on it sitting on a Mrecedes Benz lot. Now when I got my new 02 2500 they had wholesaled my 96 1500. They didn't put it on their lot. It all depends on how they can make their money I guess.
I do agree however that some places use a competitors truck to their advantage.
"OHH yeah this guy traded in his Ram for a Power Stroke""
As far as diesels go used 2nd gen CTD do not last long around here. yes I do see many more PS than CTD's too. Although lately those new CTD's are getting popular!

Badunit, yes the main reason the SD's hold up longer is the leaf spring front end ............. I think there's gonna be some mighty P.O.'d contractors next year when the "new " sd comes out
as far as engine's go, none of the contractors I've talked to have any doubt the cummins is better, but like I said the trucks die long before the motors no matter what they get
