Do you need the cab space? I can't do without it during bird season, and it would be annoying to not have the rest of the year. I always have stuff in my back seat.
As far as huge advantage, I don't think either one has an inherent advantage, it depends on how you use it.

Sold me previous truck (reg. cab long bed, 2wd) for my current truck. Gotta have the ext. cab. Now I can recline my seat! Some people just like the look of a reg. cab though.

For me it's just me,my wife and occassionally the dog. So I like the regular cab. Mine actually has quite a bit of room behind the seat which was a good idea. But I just don't need another seat.

The 3rd Gen Reg Cabs had a lot of room behind the seat. I got speaker boxes and tool and still can recline the seat all the way back and no issues. It has room for 5 Gal buckets also just no people. Guess it all depends if you are hauling people or just extra junk. I don't like the clutter. The more space the more crap I throw in there.

I've got both .
The extended cab is nice, but as usual its pretty long and parking can be a challenge. In my reg. cab dually I just pull past the spot, throw it in reverse and back right in. However I have to practically drive my rear end up on the sidewalk so the dually fenders won't block the person parked next to me from getting in their car .
For me the regular cab is plenty of space, since its my daily driver. Its got some nice little shelves in the back to hold stuff, and the seat reclines back far enough to still be comfortable.
But for taking trips the ext. cab can't be beat, because of the extra space and the smoother ride.
BUT
I personally find reg. cab duallies to be the coolest looking trucks, for the ext. cab 2500 just fits in w/ everything else!

A regular cab gives you better visibility while backing, and you can put a tool box in the long bed and still have a bed. There is room enough behind the back seat for me to pack stuff for a month long trip, or my wife's makeup for a weekend trip! We have two medium size dogs that like to ride behind the seat as well. No doubt a crew cab is more practical, but 90% of the time I am in the truck by myself. And yes, regular cab duallies are really cool.

MY reg cab has alot of space behind the seats. Coming from a quad cab before to the reg cab now I have no complaints. I can store my day to day crap behind the seats and still be comfortable and im 6 foot 3 plus the long bed is great all the storage of long bed with driveability of a short box.
