Rear Axle Problem???

I have a 2001 Ford Excursion, and am not sure if I have a rear axle problem or not. Was checking the rear brakes & with both rear wheels off of the ground & tranny in neuetal, I could barely spin the axles. Disconnected the driveshaft and the drag was a little less, but not much. Also, when I would spin one wheel, the other would spin in the same direction - as if the differenial was locked. Is all of this normal.

I checked the fluid level & it was just a little low, but I could get some on my pinky. It looked/smelled good, but I just changed it about 30,000 miles ago.

Does all of this seem normal?

your ebrake might be a little tight, I think they ued a drum in hat style on those trucks with dics brakes. both tires will spin in one direction if you have a clutch style limited slip. sounds pretty normal.

Sounds okay to me, as stated above the truck has a limited slip differential, if it were an open diff, the tire on the other side would spin in the opposite direction of the tire you where turning.

Did you add any friction modifier to the fluid change?
