Hey, my CTD makes peak tq at 2k rpm, just like the Phord.
But it peaks at over 900 (918 with the smaller sticks I had before, according to a somewhat suspicious dyno)
If memory serves, I hit the 650lb-ft rating of the 6.4L somewhere around 1650 rpm

With the stock turbo and nitrous, mine made 500 ft/lbs at 1250 rpm, 920 ft/lbs at 2200. This on a dyno that's REALLY conservative, to the point of being suspicious.
All that aside, I'm surprised ol' dude managed to slip that little jewel about the duramax being the best engine in there without someone else calling him on it. Still waiting for the response to that one...
Whoever said if you want to buy a truck based on how it looks on paper you should include such niceties as failure rates and recalls hit it on the head. That kind of stuff is NOT EXACTLY IRRELEVANT, at least if you care whether the truck runs or not. Boy, I can't wait for the shuckin and jivin we'll get on the part about reliability and recalls and how the duramax is the better engine.

Broker, I think you should worry about Ford putting out an engine thats worth a **** before you start worrying about tow ratings. A magazine says one thing, the real world says another.
That thing is 3rd world ugly. Like a 24 pack for me.
Gee, if I thought another diesel was the best one out there, I'd probably be driving that diesel.
Duramax is the best diesel, yeah, and the raiders are gonna win the super bowl.

I've figured it out-ford's tow ratings are so widely publicized so that towing businesses can figure out what capacity towtruck they need to buy. See, take the towing limits of the ford in question, add the weight of the ford itself, and then you know the max you're likely to encounter on a regular basis with them. In fact, you could theoretically buy a small fleet of towtrucks just for the fords, equipped however is best to quickly and efficiently hook to and pull them.
Seriously, is the 5.9 cummins still one of the options over the powerstroke when you get to the "real" ford trucks, the f650's and 750's?

Ya-know, I really don't feel a need to constantly re-validate my decision to buy a Cummins-powered Dodge. Some guys seem so insecure that they constantly have to have more HP than the next guy, or the Cummins has to be the best at everything by every measure, and win every contest. PUH-LEEZE!
My truck impresses even the most jaded Dodge haters that I've let drive it. Someone would have to be severely jaded not to think that 900-lb ft is pretty impressive. The vast majority of the rest of the automotive world isn't like us-- they actually think that the 600 lb-ft of a stock diesel pickup is super impressive-- never mind with a couple tweaks.
Come to think of it, just 4-5 short years ago, 600lb-ft WAS impressive in a truck. Only the hottest CTDs had 400hp, and 500hp was unimaginable. Now, you can get close to 500hp with a stock CR truck and one box!
The only thing that keeps people from feeling the raw brutality of Cummins power is the fact that it has to accelerate a beastly heavy truck as well as the people. Drop a fire-breathing 12V into a 1500 shortbed (a'la Garmon's) and people can't help but respect that kind of power.
The magic of the Cummins is in the combination. Another diesel can make lots of power. A Honda engine is super durable. A small V-8 can get decent mileage.
But what else can last seemingly forever while putting out insane power AND deliver good MPG, too???
I'm not aware of any better combination of such in existence. *THAT* is why I love my Cummins powered Dodge!

well if the 6.4L flops like the 6.0 then we can go on driving our trucks while the fords are sitting along the road with blown headgaskets, turbos, and injectors
let the numbers speak for themselves. a duramax can get to 600hp before the bottom end says bye bye, powerstrokes are lucky to hit 500 before the rods go kaboom, a dodge can handle up to and over 800hp on the stock bottom end so long as the driver doesnt overly abuse it.
no PS or duramax will ever reach the HP the little 5.9 is at currently, 1500hp+ on fuel and water (no NOS or propane)
now lets add that there are many more cummins on the road with 200,000miles or more than any of the other light duty diesels.
thats real world stuff. on paper the ford tows 24k...get on the highway with 24k and see what happens...mileage in the single digits, top speed of 55, not to mention that in 100k it will need a rebuild from all the extra stress. thats if the TWO turbos dont explode first. and the worst part is if one turbo breaks its gonna eat the other one at the same time.
shall i go on?

I thought you could order the bigger fords with a cat engine.that would make it acceptable, but not as good as a cummins. The facts remain ,nothing comes close to the reliability of a cummins.I read that dodge will introduce a 4500 and a 5500 pickup as well. But then again that is a larger pickup like the 650 and 750 as well as the gm too.And as someone stated if you want to drive around something that big to tow a trailer, buy a used semi for peanuts you.But I agree dodge needs to step up
