If Dodge isn't inclined in building a heavy duty truck to compete with the F450 and 550s, then Cummins should just take the initiative here and do what International did with the CXT or whatever it is. Think of a CUMMINS truck, with a 10K payload, D70 front end, and a D80 rear, dually, with a 26K GVW and 45K GCVW. And you know the motor would be more than adequate if Cummins made the whole thing!

I dont know if dodge will step up, but to be honest, it wont matter to me personally. I haul plenty, and my 2500 single wheel does fine. If you haul heavy all the time, a 1 ton dually is nice. If you actually NEED an F-450 to haul your 5'er then buy a freakin rig for about $8k and save your money instead of paying 50k for a boat anchor. My buddy has a 06 3500 and hauls cattle every single day with it. No problems with the truck, and he says the 6.0 ford trucks he pulls with just dont compare with power. Honestly I think ford makes a pretty decent truck.... But for the price tag on them, and the boat anchor of the motor they have had since 03.... I think your crazy to buy one. Now the 7.3 stroke was a good motor. A few electronic glitches every now and then, and they can be finicky with oil used and stuff, but overall a good solid motor. Cant say the same for the 6.0 . And I seriously dont expect to see the 6.4 any better.

[QUOTE=Lil Dog;1146437]Wow, 7 speeds coming to eh? Well that will help out in the narrow RPM band that the current 6.0 can handle to actually get you up to speed. Wow, Tow ratings. Everything looks sooooo good on paper doesn't it? Come on, be a guinea pig for us and lets see how much you can spend..
Where have you found anything about a seven speed auto? I have looked everywhere....
Thanks

If that new 08' F450 had the new 6.7 Cummins in it Dodge would just have to quit. We got a great engine, got a good truck, but it won't compete, we don't have enough configurations. I like the look of the 08' Ford, it is sharp. Most people just don't like anything new.

Huh? The duramax is/was the best motor how? Please explain-accurate facts and figures showing that the duramax is more reliable than the cummins will be needed, for starters. (Hint: looking at the numbers of recalls for various engines will provide at least a clue as to who is making what quality engine.) You've got me curious, and I bet a lot of the rest of us would like to hear what you have to say on the subject.

Super Duty
2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty Crew Cab 4X2
Engine: 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel
Horsepower: 350 @ 3,000 rpm
Torque: 650 lbs-ft @ 2,000 rpm
Max. payload: 6,120 lbs.
Max. towing: 24,400 lbs.
Curb weight: 8,290 lbs.

Wow a whole 650 foot pounds of Torque Now tell me how hard it is for a Cummins to make 650 pounds? I cant see that 6.4 doing any better than the useless 6.0. No matter what powerjoke or durasmack makes they will NEVER be able to make more power than the Cummins is capable of. Powerjokes have to rev way to high to even get any power out of them, plus are about 400 rpms higher to get there torque out of than a Cummins. Ford and Chev can brag all they like showing figures, but a real test is when they put the load behind them and pull it,, and also would like to see any of the ford or chevys get the 1,000,000 miles out of the original engine and not having to replace them every 50,000 - 100,000 miles

The Duramaxes put up a Hell of a show at Muncie this year. They're definitely up to par with the Cummins. It seems nowadays that it's actually cheaper to add power to a Duramax than a Cummins; the Duramax is a very good powerplant.
Powerstrokes are still withering in mediocrity, however.

The torque peak at 2000 RPM on the PSD, They learned nothing. That is the most heard complaint, nothing under 2K Rpm Especially if you are moving heavy loads like the "rated" 24,400 Lbs. If you have anything but their 18 spd auto, you won't move squat. Most mechanic trucks around here are PSD saddly and they weigh in at around 14,000 lbs. It is absolutely embarrasing for them to have to put it into 4L to back up to a loading dock on a little soft ground. Thats with the 6 spd stick.. The autos are OK cuz you can rev it up 2500 and hold it there.
As far as the 7 spd, well that was speculation by our good cross posting friend here and I can't support it. Nor do I care to..
If you are buying a truck based on paper only, then you should include the stats on recalls and reliability shouldn't you? Increased payload, great, now you need a heavier tow truck..
