Dodge had better hope the 6.4L engine turns out to be a dud. From the article above:
Can you say the heavy 5th wheel RV market?
Rusty
While Ford's F-350 already offers best-in-class payload, towing capacity and gross vehicle weight ratings, the F-450 is designed to set the bar well beyond the reach of GM and other rivals. It offers a payload capacity of more than 6,000 pounds and a towing capacity of more than 24,000 pounds.
"The biggest challenge with the 450 was making it a legitimate pickup," said Pete Reyes, chief engineer of the Super Duty line.
Ford already makes an F-450 chassis truck that is widely used as the foundation for flatbed haulers and small dump trucks. But Reyes said pickup truck buyers expect a lot more from their vehicles.
"The challenge with a pickup is providing excellent ride, excellent handling and excellent stability -- both empty and fully loaded," he said. "It's tough luxury."

Can you say compare apples with oranges?
The article refers to the "2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty"
Dodge is going to have to accelerate the debut of the heavier chassis to keep up.
Also, isn't there a weight threshold for what can be considered a "private" truck?
I know Virginia considers anything over 7501 GVW with the same property tax laws as a commercial truck.
(ie: no 70% 'rebate' on the Vehicle tax)

I do have to say it's a nice looking truck in my opinion. If they put one out with the Cummins I would have one on order already. I like the cab, the tow ratings and payload and the looks. Just the same though I'll keep my Dodge.

Yep, but the article says they're releasing an F-450 PICKUP - no more going to Fontaine for super-expensive looks-like-factory pickup beds any more. My point was, if the F-350 crew cab dually Tow Boss can't handle your large RV (13K GVWR, 26K GCWR), now there's going to be an F-450 pickup option.
Ed, the comparison ain't apples to oranges - at this point, it's apples to nothing. Dodge doesn't have any competition for this (i.e., the F-350 Tow Boss or the F-450), just as the article points out. The MegaCab dually? 10.5K GVWR, 23K GCWR isn't even close, not to mention no long bed availability.
And we don't pay annual property or ad valorem taxes on vehicles or RVs in Texas.

That thing probably wouldnt move at all if you loaded it down ... And if you ask me the new headlights are pretty ugly. Boys, the 6.7 with a 6 speed auto will be the king, especially when dodge steps up to 4500's, etc...

Great, now all the soccer moms can haul more weight without any training. Why would that be dangerous? The smartest thing Frod did was put in the brake controller, too many dough heads out there with 15,000 lb trailers and NO BRAKES...
Whatever, Make an F1050 as far as I care, its still stuck with a weeny V-8. I wonder if the 450 still comes with the 5.08 diff ratio? Great on the freeway.. Darwyns truck...

F-450 and new 6.4 liter engine
Brawhahahahahahahahahahahahaha Probably gonna have newer and bigger problems. I wouldnt have a Ford because of the engine. No cummins no buy. I wouldnt have a Dodge either if it didnt have a cummins. When Fords MTBF ( mean time between failures) equals Cummins I'll think about it. Ford still has to prove themselves, Cummins is light years ahead in this respect. Unless cat or Detriot comes up with something that earns the publics trust Cummins will always be king because they dont the dont let the customer do the reliability testing in the field. Everybody knows---- Cummins takes care of their customers and values their reputation.

6.4Liter more cubes, more turbo, and still not enough head bolts! Will this be the next 6.0Leaker. CTD guys should not worry about this one. Only one V8 light duty diesel worth a darn. It is not in a Ford.
