Question Pyro guage - Diesel VS. Gas

I was talking to a friend that races 1/4 mile drag cars. We were talking about Pyro guages and he said that the ones for gassers and diesels were different in some way and were not inter-changeable. He said he has an article from a magazine that says there is a difference.

What could be different? Temperature is temperature is it not??

The only thing I can think of that might be different is the scale. Maybe gassers need to read higher temps than 1500*? Anyone know what the difference is, if there really is one.

I think your friend is wrong. The guage and thermocouple is most likely the same. I can't think of any reason how they could be different

I know for a fact they are the same. When I ordered my first set of gauges from summit, I didn't tell them it was a diesel. They didn't use to sell anything for diesels. The only thing I could think of would maybe be the gauge would read HIGHER. But I doubt that as well. Especially since the heavily fueled guys can peg a 1500* pyro.

That's what I thought! I asked him to get me the article so I can see (read) what he is talking about. I'll post my findings.
