problems with the D-max

Have there been any significant problems of late with the D-max allison combo? I heard that they can be super powerful with only a few mods, like stacked boxes, and exhaust/intake combo for the egts....and i heard one fella say he got like 750 hp!DARN!!!Big Blue had 625....but jeesus.......thats alotta power!

back on topic, how long do these things last...lol..(cough....not as long as a cummins..cough..cough) i mean milage wise, cuz im concidering getting one. i sold big blue, and red ryder is totaled, ill be getting my money for my court case bout red ryder soon...guy ran a red light in a mack d-truck.....hit me at 35....lucky to be alive. motor was through the fire wall.... so ya, im gunna get a cummins to bomb, and a nice new truck too (ive never had ne thing new)

I work at a Dealership, service dept. I wouldn't have one. Injector problems, head gaskets, U do know that they have aluminum heads with a cast iron block? The highest mileage one I've seen is 170,000 miles. I've heard of trans problems, haven't seen one myself. Have you looked @ the price tag. A little pricey I think. We had one in a few weeks ago that has modifide. It had a Edge Attitude, Banks big horn, and some other garbage spliced into the harness, look like a fire waitin to start. Tech took it out and drove and from a stop he juiced it and within a few seconds from take off the EGT monitor was flashin 1200. I took one home one night (New), before I bought my CTD, and personally, I'm glad I bought my cummins. The price with GM employee discount was killer though, but still I passed. 2004, 4 door, 4X4, loaded with leather was $38,000 out the door, sticker price was $45,000. I guess it's just personal preference. My $.02

Hey Buckshot, would that be Christanson Chevy? I was in there a while back and the parts guy mentioned that a lot were dead in the water from lack of replacement injectors being avaliable. Failures were caused by poor fuel he said? any truth to this?.

My work truck was a 3500 w/the Dmax and Allison combo. It was double stacked for a while and would shut the tranny down. We took off one box and left the Edge box on it. That thing would get up and run with the best of them. Even with a gooseneck loaded with a John Deere it would still move! I drove it through Nashville traffic every day and could easily hammer it down and get around in traffic. Mileage wasnt too shabby. I did notice that the last 1/4 tank goes really fast though! When she says she's thirsty....she is thirsty!! The last time I drove it there was close to 50k on the odometer with no troubles. I have lots of friends that are running Dmax and the early models had alot of trouble....until 03 and then they got their act together. The 05's have converters on the exhaust now. But not all of them....I think chevy has em and GMC doesnt. Kind of a mixed bag around here as to whether you have one or not from the factory. There is an 02 sensor in there so just chopping it off isnt an option...so I am told. I have a friend that has an 03 3500 and modded the heck out of it. He has managed to kill 2 trannies. But he is running double stacked with propane. Dunno what else you would like to know...but that is my experience with the "tampax"....ha-ha!

Yikes, ya'll have a lot of serious accidents....we're at 1.3 million man hours (4 years) without a serious lot time accident.....

You sure cant beat the Dmaxs ride or creature comforts.....

Truckin mag said that in their Diesel shootout, When people got done driving the Duramax they went for the workers comp form because without a trailer, it rode like crap. They said with a trailer it rode better than the other trucks. The dodge rode the best unloaded, and the dodge Unloaded had the best 0-60, 1/4 mile, and braking. ford came in second, duramax came in last. loaded up, the ford got first in 0-60 and 1/4 mile, and the dodge got 2nd in that, but first in loaded braking. the duramax yet again came in last.
