General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Smile Probably a crazy idea

Mods, if this is the incorrect forum, please put it where it should be, thanks.

Ok, so the 1 month date has passed of my Dodge ownership. I grow to love this truck more and more each day ( I will REALLY love it when I get the steps installed........) In any instance, I still have my old 79 K-20 with a 4BT. I originally was going to sell it, but given my druthers, I think now I would rather stuff it in a 2nd gen 1/2 ton. I may have a line on a 1997 ext. cab 1/2 ton with a blown 318, but loaded with eveything else. I know I can get a 97 regular cab with a blown tranny cheap if the ext. cab doesnt work out.

So, I started thinking about just what it would take to make a 94-97 gasser 1/2 ton 2WD into a 4BT mileage machine. I'm sure wife.com wouldnt mind the diesel smell nearly as much if it was comfortable and returned 30 plus MPG.....

So, assuming I make a set of 6BT mounts work, and I think I can sell my Chevy adapter stuff for way more than Dodge stuff will cost to replace it, I could stuff a 47RE/RH with a stock Converter, which should stall much lower behind a 4BT. I will have no issues getting the fuel system up and running, and the rest of the electronics shouldnt be hard. What I am not familiar with would be the dash ( Speedo, Tach, etc.....)

Am I crazy here, or would this be a fairly simple deal, I would prefer not to hassle with a TPS, etc...... Perhaps I should look at a 2WD NV4500?

Any tips, thoughts, etc. would be really appreciated.
