Every single time.

I suspect that this is not regularly done when you take your vehicle to the shop for an oil change.

One more (suspected) reason that I do it myself.

My name isn't Tom either and I prefill mine to about 3/4 full so I don't spill any oil (well.....not much) when I install the filter. New poll? - how many non-Toms versus Toms prefill?

I fill mine every time, don't think I want the turbo to do too many dry starts and the way I've been told is that if you don't fill it, the turbo runs with out oil until the filter fills. so I don't think it's worth the price of a turbo not to?

I do mine just like CTD NUT, fill it up about an inch from the top, that allows me to angle it around the wiring and everything so I can get it on there without spilling any.

I always fill it about 3/4 full. No big deal at all. I fill it up and wait a couple of seconds then refill as the oil soaks through the filter.

Is there anyone that does not fill the filter?

We won't yell at ya....

Any of your quick lube joints and most dealers.

The only rig I owned that doesn't allow filling the filter is my 1973 Dodge Charger 383! It has the filter sideways!

But for the Cummins - IT IS ALWAYS FILLED before installation!

Still like the answer to upside-down filling!

Why not?

Well to date: 9 people have said they don't.
Any reasons for not pre-filling?
If you said no-- why not?
I Promise I WON"T FLAME YA!
Just curious.
Too much bother?
No time?
Don't believe in it?

Exactly, the first thing to get oil from the filter is the turbo. Since the turbo drains after setting, it pretty much has only what did not drain in it to lube it. When you factor in the speed of a turbo can be up to 80,000RPM that is alot of revolutions to be left dry.

For the piece of mind, I prefill every time on my personal truck as well as the equipment that I work on. Just be sure to use clean oil and dont let anything fall into the filter.

Well I'm one of the 9.82% that does not pre fill. I've never done it even way back when I worked in a service station as a kid. Was never told to by any of the mechanics.
With that note. I do all my own oil changes on my Cummins N-14 460 in my big truck & don't pre fill. Been doing that way for 29yrs. Had One Million Four Hundred Thousand miles on the last truck with only one inframe rebuild.
The 400hp big cam 3 had two spin ons & the n-14 has one big one, neither of which would drain back when sitting a couple of days. I've changed them after sitting & they were always plum full.
